The Russian punk rock band King and the Fool is known even to those who donât like heavy music. This team is impossible not to notice or ignore, despite the specifics of the genre. The group lasted more than 25 years, during which time a huge number of compositions were created, significantly differing from each other in musical component and lyrics. How many albums were recorded by the King and the Fool?
The teamâs discography is currently 12 studio albums, more about the work of the legendary team in our article.
A brief history of the group
The official year of the founding of the musical group âKing and the Foolâ is considered to be 1988. However, the leader of the group
Mikhail Gorshenev (aka Gorshok) began to conduct creative experiments while still at school. It was in a general education institution that he met with the musicians Balu and the Lieutenant, who were included in the first star cast of the team. Later at the school, Gorshok met
Andrei Knyazev (Prince), and the real story of the King and the Fool group began.
The discography of the collective does not include the very first album - âBe at home, Travelerâ, recorded back in 1994. But it was thanks to him that the group began to gain popularity, got on television and began to give concerts. The official first album of âThe King and the Jesterâ is considered to be âA stone on the headâ, recorded in 1996 at the âMelodyâ studio.
Creative experiments
After the incredible success of the âStone on the Headâ disc, the group enthusiastically works on a new album. It is called the âKing and the Foolâ and is a quality reprint of the first unofficial collection. An interesting fact: in 2000, the second album was reissued again in its original design, but with the âcorrectâ title - âBe at home, Travelerâ.
In 1999, the fans of the group were incredibly surprised, as the new album turned out to be quite lyrical and calm, and this is âThe King and the Foolâ. The teamâs discography was replenished with a publication with a telling name - âAcoustic albumâ. In the same year 1999, the first concert collection was released, entitled âMen ate meat.â In 2000, the disc âHeroes and Villainsâ appeared on sale with an abundance of tough compositions and horror texts. In 2001, an album was released, which many fans of the group consider the best - "Like an Old Tale." His compositions clearly demonstrate what punk rock is, the album turned out to be even more difficult, which led to a general jubilation of the audience.
The modern history of the âKing and the Jesterâ
In 2002, the album âSorry, no guns!â Was released. Most fans liked the lyrics and the music. âThe King and the Foolâ, as a group that is responsive to the audienceâs reaction, decides to record the Dead Anarchist concert disc and put it on sale immediately in audio and video. The album "Riot on the ship" was released in 2004. And this is again a shock for fans of the âKing and the Foolâ collective; the songs on the new disc turned out to be even more harsh and heavy. However, the admirers of the groupâs creativity did not decrease from this. The eighth album of the collective was released in 2006 and received the name "Seller of nightmares."
In 2007, the collection âTerrible Talesâ was published under the brand âKing and the Foolâ - this is a collection of âchildren'sâ fairy tales, retold by Gorshk and the Prince in a completely non-childish manner. The bandâs ninth disc was released in 2008, âThe Shadow of the Clown,â and in 2010 the Demon Theater appeared on sale.
Solo albums of Pot, Prince and TODD
During the existence of the âKing and the Foolâ group, songs were released not only under the main brand, fans enjoyed the solo works of the musicians. By 2004, Prince and Pot had accumulated a sufficient amount of copyright material that did not fit into the general concept of the team. It was decided to release a separate solo disc. In 2004, Potty released a solo album, "I am an Alcoholic Anarchist," and in 2005 the Prince delights fans with his authorial work, "Love the Scoundrel." After recording the tenth disc of the âDemon Theaterâ, âThe King and the Foolâ, he did not record albums for some time. During the âsilenceâ, the Prince left the group and began a solo career, collecting his own team, and the remaining musicians, led by Gorshk, accepted an invitation to participate in the musical TODD.
Theatrical production took a lot of energy, but was incredible success. Against this background, the team released two albums at once, consisting entirely of songs from a musical performance: this is âTODD. Act 1. Holiday of Blood âandâ TODD. Act 2. On the edge. "
In 2014, due to the death of leader Mikhail Gorshenev, the group ceases to exist. And despite the end of its history, even today the collective remains quite popular, mature people and modern teenagers listen to old songs, everyone knows what âKing and the Foolâ is. The discography of the collective has 12 official albums, two concert and two solo discs of Prince and Pot.
