The drug "Pharmatex" (candles) is a vaginal suppository that has a cylindrical shape and a conical end, they are white in color and may have a smell of fat. The main active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride, and semi-synthetic glycerides and hydroxypropyl cellulose are used as auxiliary substances.
Also, Pharmatex is available in the form of vaginal tablets, vaginal cream and tampons.
“Farmateks” (suppositories) cause destruction of spermatozoa, with the flagellum breaking first and then the head, which leads to the fact that they become incapable of fertilization. Farmateks (candles) are recommended to be used in case of using a vaginal diaphragm or IUD as an additional method of local contraception.
Contraindications
This tool can not be used for people who have mental disorders, as well as for those who can not perceive this type of contraception :
- in the presence of colpitis, as well as ulcers and irritations on the mucous membrane of the uterus or vagina;
- in the presence of high sensitivity to the components of the candles.
Farmateks - instructions for use
Suppositories are administered in the supine position no later than 5 minutes before the onset of sexual intercourse. They act for four hours, if you plan to have repeated sexual contact, then you need to lay a new suppository.
Tablets are administered in the same way, but 10 minutes before intimacy and last only 3 hours.

Possible side effects
After the use of this drug, contact dermatitis, itching, burning may occur, in such cases, the use of this drug should be discontinued and alternative methods of contraception should be sought.
