Cervicitis: symptoms and consequences

A fairly common gynecological disease is cervicitis, whose symptoms can be almost invisible. Because of this, timely treatment is not carried out, and the disease becomes chronic. Over time, unpleasant complications develop.

With cervicitis, the cervix becomes inflamed. Most women encounter him at least once in a lifetime. Unmarried girls who are actively having sex are at risk.

Nonspecific cervicitis causes opportunistic flora. The most common are Escherichia coli, gardnerella, Candida, streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus. Specific cervicitis is caused by STDs. The most common cause is Trichomanade, chlamydia, gonococcus.

Today, viral cervicitis is also common. They are treated more difficult and longer. They are caused by HSV and HPV.

The cause of nonspecific and viral cervicitis is unprotected intercourse. Inflammation caused by opportunistic flora can cause trauma during abortion or childbirth, and a decrease in immunity. The cause of this disease can be hormonal disorders.

Cervicitis, whose symptoms can be almost imperceptible, becomes chronic if untreated. How brightly the disease manifests itself depends on the pathogen and the body. For example, with gonorrhea, the symptoms are more pronounced than with chlamydia. In the chronic form of the disease, they are practically absent.

So, acute cervicitis symptoms:

  • burning and itching in the vagina;
  • purulent-mucous discharge;
  • drawing or dull abdominal pain;
  • painful and frequent urination ;
  • erosion, hyperemia and soreness of the neck;
  • bleeding after sex and discomfort during it;
  • lack of sex drive.

He is diagnosed during examination with mirrors and colposcopy. The causative agent is determined by analysis of smears from the cervical canal. They are sown with an antibioticogram, as well as PCR diagnostics.

Be sure to take smears on atypical cells and flora. A vaginal ultrasound is also prescribed. If the infection is not detected, then it is advisable to conduct a hormonal examination.

Quite often, a woman learns about this pathology untimely and accidentally at a planned visit to the gynecologist, which must be done annually. She inevitably raises the question: "Chronic cervicitis: what is it and what does it threaten with?"

Over time, this disease leads to changes in the mucosa, erosion occurs, and then dysplasia. This condition, without the necessary treatment, leads to cancer. Especially dangerous in this sense is the combination of HPV and HSV type 2.

Today, cervical cancer is easily treated with timely detection. A smear on atypical cells helps to identify pathological changes in time , which is desirable to take annually. In antenatal clinics, it is performed for free.

Chronic cervicitis and pregnancy are also poorly combined. This disease can lead to pathologies, infection of the fetus, miscarriages, postpartum complications.

In addition, over time, inflammation can spread to the uterus, and then to the tubes and ovaries. This leads to infertility and impaired functioning of the reproductive system.

Cervicitis should be treated only by a qualified gynecologist. The drug of choice depends on the pathogen found. If these are viruses, then vitamins and immune preparations are definitely prescribed. Therapy of chronic cervicitis will take more time and money. In the presence of erosion, its surgical treatment is performed.

Thus, cervicitis, whose symptoms are often not noticed, can lead to formidable consequences. The most common of these is erosion requiring surgical treatment. Without the necessary treatment, cervicitis eventually leads to dysplasia and cancer, especially in the presence of HSV and HPV. It negatively affects the ability to give birth to a child.
