One of the main television hits of the eighties was the British television series Robin from Sherwood. The streets of Soviet cities were empty during the show of another story, people by hook or by crook were asked to leave work to catch the TV. And the idol of all the girls was certainly the actor who played the role of Robin Hood. Photos of Michael Pride were cut out from newspapers and magazines; his images appeared on posters decorating the rooms. However, the Englishman nevertheless devoted most of his career to theatrical stages and appeared infrequently on the screens.
Years of study
The future Robin Hood was born in England in 1960 under the name Michael David Prince. Later, however, the name Pride was chosen as the stage name, which means “meadow” in Cornish. This was due to the fact that Michael Prince was already registered in the British Guild of Actors.
Father soon after the birth of Michael moved to Iran to work in the English representative office of the oil company.
The boy spent his first childhood years in Tehran, having learned Farsi during this time. When he was 8 years old, Michael's family returned to Britain, where he began to study at a private Eastbourne school. After receiving a general education, he entered Eastbourne College, which was famous for its strict discipline. However, here Michael paid more attention to music and singing, as well as school plays, than to scientific disciplines.
Seeing this state of affairs, teachers advised him to continue his education in more specialized educational institutions, where he could become an artist.
After college, Michael moves to London and enters the Guildhall School of Music and Theater. Here he is taught opera, music, but the young man himself gravitates more to the craft of a dramatic actor.
Becoming an actor
After graduating, Michael began by changing his name. There was already Michael Prince in Britain, and therefore, Pride One appeared instead of Prince II.
The young actor begins his career with work in the theater. His first serious appearance on stage was the role of Jesus, played by him in the musical Godspell. In 1980, Michael Pride moved to Southampton, where he focused on classical theater productions. In his active role in the performances of "The Tempest", "The Servant of the Two Masters", "Beauty and the Beasts."
Moreover, for the last production, a graduate of the Guildhall School wrote some musical parts.
The restless Pride did not sit still, and he again changed his place of work. To continue his career, he chose the theater in Chesterfield, where he gained wide fame, playing in the production of “The Penzas Pirates”, playing the role of Frederick.
Breakthrough on the big screens
Having become famous, the actor began to appear in television productions. He participates in the projects "Professionals", "Rothko Conspiracy".
The fateful in the biography of Michael Pride was his participation in the musical "Abbakadabra", where he got the part of Aladdin. It was here that he met Finola Hughes, with whom he then lived for more than seven years.
Just at that time, producer Paul Knight was looking for an actor to play the lead role in the new television series Robin from Sherwood. He liked the work of Michael Pride in “Pirates of Penzas,” and he invited the aspiring artist to his film, which first aired in 1984. “Robin from Sherwood” became a free interpretation of the canonical book about a noble robber, two Robin Hoods appeared in the plot at once.
The series caused a huge stir around the world, and the rights to it were sold out in more than fifty countries. Michael Pride himself gained worldwide popularity and began to receive countless invitations to participate in new projects.
Late work
After successfully working in Robin from Sherwood, the Briton went overseas, where for some time he worked on Broadway, playing the role of Dartanyan. This was followed by the role of Mikhail Moldavsky in the series Aaron Spelling, as well as participation in the film "Night Flight". The last picture failed at the box office and caused a storm of criticism due to an unsuccessful script and low-quality special effects.
However, the actor earned enough money to build a house with a private studio in Los Angeles, where he wrote several songs that were enough for a full album. A photo of Michael Pride in the life of those times shows the viewer a person who is completely satisfied with his fate.
In the nineties, he returned to his homeland, where he focused on work in the theater. On television and in the movies, he did not appear so often.
You can distinguish roles in the series "Riders", "Secret Adventures of Jules Verne." For six years he worked as a narrator in the documentary project “Time Scale”.
Today, Michael Pride constantly lives near London, meeting with Josephine Gabel, whom he has known for more than ten years.
