The Oscar-winning "Titanic" is a truly great movie, about which you can still talk and write endlessly. Those who liked the film say they could watch it again and again, admiring the work of James Cameron. But you will probably be interested to know how they shot "Titanic", that is, to look at least with one peep into a kind of "cinematic cuisine." How "Titanic" was shot: how it all began
Of course, we all heard about how many Oscars the Titanic received, how much money was invested in the film, and how much it paid off after the release. We will not focus on this. But do you know what inspired Cameron to make a film about the death of the Titanic? The Hollywood director began to seriously work on the film in 1993, and the impetus for this was the book of his friend writer Lewis Eberneti, which the author presented to James as a gift for his birthday. By the way, Eberneti played the role of Lewis Bodin in the film.
In order to see firsthand the sunken Titanic, Cameron resorted to the services of the Russians by renting the Academician Mstislav Keldysh (research vessel). With the help of deep-water bathyscaphes, our experts helped James make 12 dives to the ship, which lies at a depth of already 3,750 meters.

At first, the candidacy of Matthew McConaughey was considered for the role of the protagonist, however, Cameron felt that he was too mature for the role of Jack. Tom Cruise, who, alas, was even older than Matthew, also put forward his candidacy. Christian Dale nearly played Jack Dawson, but he was left out of work. According to the director, it was Leo DiCaprio who best suited this role. Gwyneth Paltrow herself took part in the casting for the main character, however, in the end, Rose was entrusted to play not so famous, but gifted British Briton Kate Winslet.

The decorators used both the shooting of the flooded Titanic interiors brought by Cameron and the preserved photographs of the ship’s interiors of the beginning of the last century that were taken before its departure as the basis. Everything down to the smallest details exactly corresponded to the real elements of the interior: furniture, fireplace, wall panels, and every little thing. In the end, the unfortunate decorators also had to work hard to properly age all things as if they had been under water for many years. To do this, they were varnished, then burned with a burner, this procedure was repeated over and over again, until the interior details got the proper look.

Then it was time to create one of the most expensive sets in cinematic history - the huge ship itself. It also had to be recreated in great detail. A copy of the Titanic was 230 meters long and eight-story house high. It cost Cameron $ 15 million. True, due to economic feasibility, the ship was not decided to finish building for filming - in reality, the Titanic was another 30 meters longer. They did not build the bow of the ship - they simply finished it later on the computer, which, alas, cost even more than creating the scenery.

The water, which according to the scenario flooded all these expensive decorations, was very cold (no matter how hard they tried to heat it). Of course, the real water in the Atlantic was at zero temperature and killed people for half an hour, but being in 15-degree water for all the actors was a real torture. Leading actors were especially affected. DiCaprio recalls that their cries of “Damn, icy water!” Were genuine. And Winslet, who refused to wear a wetsuit under her clothes, earned pneumonia after filming this episode.
