It is no exaggeration to say that landscapes and interiors are the same significant characters in the series "Crime", like all other characters. The story of the investigation into the mysterious murder of a student at a teacher training college unfolds against the background of gloomy faces immersed in the autumn melancholy of a provincial town. The atmosphere, as well as possible, harmonizes with the mood. And, of course, the logical question is where the film “Crime” was shot, in which city. Filming from the first to the last frame took place in the Kaliningrad region.
Style unity
The producer of the series Arkady Danilov explained that the style of the film coincides perfectly with the aesthetics of the city, which managed to create the necessary tension, which the director of the film, Maxim Vasilenko, sought.
The film Crime is the Russian version of the Scandinavian project Forbrydelsen (Murder), shot in 2007 by the joint efforts of film production in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. In Russia, the series was broadcast on Channel One in the fall of 2011 and did not go unnoticed by sophisticated audiences. In the same year, the American television network Fox Television Dtudios , where they shot the film The Killing , once again captured the minds of fans of the detective genre. The American remake was also very successful.
Who killed Tanya Lavrov?
The plot of the Russian adaptation is closer to the American version and in some places resembles the collision of the Twin Peaks tape, the keynote of which was the insoluble riddle: “Who killed Laura Palmer?” In the series, regardless of where the film "Crime" was shot - in Europe, in Russia or in America, the victim is a young girl, and the investigation turns into an exciting puzzle with the question open until the very end: from whose hand the student died.
Everyone has their own “skeletons”
The series has three main storylines: the investigation of the brutal murder, the personal lives of the heroes, and the mayor's political campaign unfolding in the city.
The story begins on the last working day of investigator Alexandra Moskvina (Daria Moroz), in the place of which a new officer Andrei Chistyakov (Pavel Priluchny) takes over the police. Together they go to the crime scene and begin to analyze what is happening. In fact, new evidence is constantly appearing. Alexandra is drawn into the investigation and puts off a trip to Moscow to her fiancé.

The family of the murdered girl cannot cope with grief. The suffering of inconsolable parents is aggravated by the fact that the police can not find the killer. The dull autumnal landscapes of the city streets and the local cemetery underline the mood of hopelessness. The family lives in a house resembling a factory floor: a gray-green color scheme on brick walls, low standard furniture looks out of place against the background of ceilings that go high. The interior space of the pulp and paper mill, where the interior of the Lavrov’s dwelling was shot in the film Crime, reflects the sad restlessness of the heroes. The lack of warmth and coziness in the house seems to be provocative, where psychological weaknesses and flaws of its inhabitants are exposed.
All shades of gray
The audience sees discreet minimalist loft-style interior in the offices of politicians and the offices of detectives. Optimistic colors do not please the clothes of the characters. Gray, black tones prevail, both in the everyday attire of investigators, and in the refined outfits of a prosperous urban "top". The only bright spot is a pink pullover and a light crimson dress of the deceased girl, which appears only in the credits and memoirs of loved ones. Pink is read as a metaphor unfolding in several semantic planes, from a hint of a rudely torn life that has not managed to bloom to a sketch of an opened spiritual emptiness that cannot be filled with anything.
The duet of detectives
The turtleneck covering the throat and hands of investigator Moskvina also surprisingly harmonizes with the closed laconic character of the insightful detective and with the city where the film Crime was filmed. By the way, the authors of the series had a complete understanding with Daria Moroz: it was her idea that the heroine wear a turtleneck. The actress managed to create the image of a gifted, feminine and stingy with sentimentalism detectives.
The character of the low-key partner Alexandra Moskvina, on the contrary, is distinguished by impulsiveness and rude determination. The policeman, behind whose back is a long battle with drug addiction, is now bravely fighting for the truth. His element is speed and pressure.
The series contains extremely few action movie scenes. Here the “shootout" of minds is more important than pistols. Even the episodes of detention and surveillance created in the aesthetics of the best examples of art house. For example, chase scenes in a meat market, in one of the locations where the film “Crime” was shot with Priluchny as the investigator Chistyakov.
People, city, cinema
The investigators ’intellectual game with facts and suspects keeps them in suspense all the time. The intrigue not only persists, but intensifies as the plot develops. The series in style cooperation with the city where the film “Crime” was shot with Pavel Priluchny, Daria Moroz, Lyudmila Artemyeva, Andrei Smelyakov, Igor Kostolevsky and other great actors, turned out to be a worthy film noir, which is popular today in Europe.
In Kaliningrad, where the film Crime was filmed, two more full-length projects were launched. The interest of the film industry in this territory is due to the fact that the head of the region issued a decree on financial support for all films created in Kaliningrad.
