The drug 'Polydex' (spray for the nose)

The drug "Polydex" (spray for the nose) is used in otorhinolaryngology for infectious conditions of the upper paths: sinusitis and rhinopharyngitis of various forms. The composition of the drug "Polydex" includes the following components: antibiotics (neomycin, polymyxin B), as well as dexamethasone, phenylephrine. The combination of antibiotics contributes to a stronger therapeutic effect. The indicated characteristic feature of the Polydex medication (nasal spray) allows achieving several positive effects: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and vasoconstrictor.

Description of the drug

The phenylephrine hydrochloride component that is part of the drug constricts the vessels of the nasal mucosa. This helps to reduce swelling of the tissues. The Polydex medicine (nose spray) fights foci of upper respiratory tract infections. The therapeutic effect of the nasal spray is activated by components such as neomycin sulfate and polymyxin sulfate. In this case, the destruction of the cell membranes of microorganisms occurs. Polydex is available not only in the form of a spray for the nose, but also in the form of ear drops (the latter do not contain phenylephrine).

Additional components of the drug are: lithium chloride, methyl paraben, citric acid (monohydrate), polysorbate 80, macrogol 400, distilled water.

Spray "Polydex" - application

The drug "Polydex" (spray for the nose) should be used only as directed by the doctor. An adult dose corresponds to a four-fold injection of the drug into each nostril daily. The duration of the course is one week, a maximum of one and a half.

Children are also prescribed the "Polydex" (nose drops). The instruction indicates three times the use of this drug per day for five to ten days. In this case, special care must be taken - the bottle should be located in an upright position during spraying. In childhood, the drug is prescribed when the child has purulent discharge of yellow-green color.

Contraindications

There are contraindications to the use of the drug "Polydex" in the nose (instructions for use contain information about this). Taking the drug is contraindicated:

  • glaucoma patients (angle-closure)
  • children under the age of two and a half years;
  • with kidney disease;
  • pregnant women and nursing mothers;
  • patients with arterial hypertension, hyperthyroidism, coronary insufficiency (with extreme caution).

It is not recommended to use the tool "Polydex" for washing the sinuses.

Side effects

Side effects of the nasal spray include allergic manifestations (usually in the form of skin rashes), a positive test with doping control in athletes.

An overdose of Polydex is practically impossible due to the low adsorption of drops into the systemic circulation.

Interaction with other drugs

The incompatibility of this drug with the drugs Streptomycin, Amikacin, Netilmicin, Gentamicin, Monomitsin was noted.

The drug retains its properties under the conditions of storage. Air temperature should not exceed 25 degrees Celsius. The shelf life of the drug "Polydex" is long - three years.
