A chance meeting between Anastacia Steele and Christian Gray pushes the main characters to give a second chance to their relationship, which would be completely devoid of the rules and responsibilities that caused the couple to break up. The happy “candy-bouquet” period is overshadowed by Gray’s struggle with the old internal demons and the appearance of his ex-girlfriend, whose intentions towards Anastacia are full of anger and envy.

The director of the first part of the trilogy S. Taylor-Johnson refused to embody the plot of the second book because of disagreements with the author of the trilogy. After her, the work on the film was abandoned by the screenwriter K. Marcel. R. Thomas and T. Wexler were the main contenders for the director’s chair, since many believed that “50 shades darker” should be shot by a woman. In the end, the creator of this melodrama was James Fowley. The script was written by N. Leonard, the husband of the writer E. L. James. Only the composer - musician D. Elfman remained unchanged.

Filming
The actors began work on the film “50 Shades Darker” in June 2015. Filming was conducted under the fictitious name "Further Adventures of Banks and Max 2 and 3". Very soon, work was stopped and resumed in February 2016. The film was shot in Vancouver, Paris, Nice and the Cote d'Azur. The authors of the melodrama simultaneously worked on the second and third film. The honeymoon of Christian and Anastacia was filmed on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Fowley successfully overcame the main flaw of the first picture - unbearable boredom - with the help of traits characteristic of the thriller. The Village, Komsomolskaya Pravda, Gazeta.ru, TJ, and several other publications also spoke negatively about the sequel.
