Nizoral tablets are an effective antifungal agent that is used to treat skin, nails and scalp with yeast and dermatophytes. The drug is indicated for systemic mycoses, vaginal candidiasis, gastrointestinal mycoses, acne vulgaris, seborrhea.
Release form - round white tablets of white color. One piece contains 200 mg of the active substance - ketoconazole. The composition also includes corn starch, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide , polyvidone. The tablets are in foil and PVC blisters - 10 pieces each. In a cardboard box contains 3 blisters - a total of 30 tablets nizoral. Instructions for use are attached.
Nizoral tablets are prescribed for infections of smooth integuments and hairy areas on the head, if local treatment has failed, the affected areas are too large in area and depth.
The drug is taken for multi-colored lichen, folliculitis, dermatophytosis, candidiasis of the mouth, pharynx and esophagus, candidiasis of the vagina, chronic candidiasis of the mucous membranes and skin.
Nizoral tablets are indicated for fungal infections: histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, coccidioidosis, paracoccidioidosis.
Ketoconazole is not used for fungal meningitis, since the drug cannot penetrate the physiological barrier between the central nervous system and blood.
Nizoral tablets are contraindicated in children under the age of three years, with acute and chronic form of liver disease, high sensitivity to the active element of the drug or any other component.
Nizoral is not prescribed for pregnant and lactating women, since the degree of risk in this period has not been clarified. The drug can be prescribed to the expectant mother if the possible benefit for the woman outweighs the risk for the unborn child. Ketoconazole penetrates into the motherβs milk, so it is not recommended to drink the drug during lactation.
Nizoral tablets should be taken with caution to people with reduced secretion of the stomach, adrenal insufficiency, women over 50 years old, and people with alcohol dependence.
Nizoral can not be taken simultaneously with such drugs as: Astemizole, Terfenadine, Misolastine, Levometadil, Halofantrine and others. Ketocanazole is not compatible with alcohol.
How to take Nizoral (tablets)?
The instruction informs about the dosage and duration of use. Adults should drink one tablet daily with meals. If the effect does not occur, then the dose should be doubled (2 once a day). With vaginal candidiasis, take 2 per day.
Children weighing up to 30 kg are prescribed half a tablet per day. Children whose weight is more than 30 kg are offered a dosage as in adults.
The duration of treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
With vaginal candidiasis, Nizoral lasts for a week, with multi-colored lichen - 10 days, skin mycoses caused by dermatophytes - 4 weeks, candidiasis of the oral mucosa for 2-3 weeks, fungal infection of the scalp - up to two months, systemic fungal infections - up to six months, nail infections - up to a year.
Nizoral tablets should be taken continuously, since treatment with omissions can cause a relapse of the infection. Therapy should be discontinued in the event of reactions such as vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, jaundice, fatigue, dark urine.
Nizoral can cause various adverse reactions. The most common nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea. Less commonly dizziness, headache, photophobia, allergies, parasthesia, menstrual irregularities, drowsiness. Taking Nizoral can lead to hepatitis, which disappears after discontinuation of treatment.
In case of an overdose of the drug, it is necessary to wash the stomach, if necessary, drink activated charcoal.
If treatment with Nizoral lasts more than two weeks, you need to monitor the work of the liver.
