The Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater has existed for more than a hundred years. To date, the basis of the repertoire is composed of classic plays. Initially, the theater staged not only dramatic performances, but also operas and ballets.

History

National Academic Theater named after Yankees

One of the most popular in Belarus is the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater. Its history began in 1888. This year, on June 26, the construction of the theater building was solemnly begun. The authors of the project were architects K. Kozlovsky and K. Vvedensky. The opening of the theater took place in 1890. The first performance, based on the play by Y. Kupala, is Pavlinka. This event took place in 1917. This production is the hallmark of the theater. She is in the repertoire to this day. Its troupe was formed in 1920. It is this year that is considered to be the date when the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater was founded. The first troupe was led by Florian Zhdanovich. Talented actors worked in it. Until 1927, the troupe included not only drama artists, but also ballet, choir and orchestra. In the year 1933 the opera house was opened. Musicians, choristers and dancers were transferred there.

During the war, the theater was evacuated to Tomsk. There, the artists were right up to the Victory of the Soviet people over the fascist invaders. Soon the theater received the name of Yanka Kupala, and in 1955 was awarded the title of academic.

In the 60s new performances created by young directors appeared in the repertoire.

From 1973 to 2009, the post of chief director was Valery Raevsky.

For a great contribution to the development of Belarusian culture, for high achievements in the field of art, the theater received national status in 1993.

Since 2009, the post of artistic director of the troupe has been held by Nikolai Pinigin.

In 2013, a large-scale reconstruction of the theater building was completed. He was returned to the appearance of 1890.

Artistic director

National Academic Theater named after Yankee Kupala

Nikolai Pinigin has been in this post since 2009. In 1979, he graduated from the Theater and Art Institute in Belarus, the “Director of Television” department. Nikolay Pinigin began his career on television. He did not work there for long. In 1980, he moved to the Maxim Gorky Russian Drama Theater, where he served as an actor for several years. Then there was a director's internship at the Moscow Maly Theater. N. Pinigin came to the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater in 1985. At first he was a director, and after twenty-odd years he became artistic director. Nikolai Pinigin is a laureate of the State Prize of Belarus. To date, he has staged over fifty performances in various theaters in Belarus, as well as in Russia.

Visiting Rules

The Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater asks spectators to observe the following rules without fail:

  • You can only enter if you have a ticket for the performance.
  • There should not be any corrections to this pass-through document, otherwise it will be considered invalid.
  • Buy a ticket only at the box office of the theater or from an authorized person.
  • A spectator with a false pass document is not allowed to the performance; money is not refunded to him.
  • Clothing should be democratic, neat, clean. The audience is not allowed spectators in sports, dirty or wrinkled clothes, men in shorts, women in swimsuits.
  • Visitors are removed from the theater who insult workers and others, use obscene language, create riots, occupy other people's places, carry any weapon, as well as its imitation, propagandize war and terrorism.

  • It is forbidden to shoot a performance in a photo or video.
