One of which remained with O. Efremov at the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov. The other was headed by T. Doronin. It received the name of the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky. In 2000, after the death of O. Efremov, the head of the theater was O. Tabakov. He made changes to the repertoire. The best directors were invited to carry out the productions.
