The book series about the adventures of the boy wizard Harry Potter, like her film adaptation, has long been a classic. In the films of this epic, they tried their best to convey all the events of the books. That's just because of the limited time of films, many moments, as well as story lines, had to be thrown away. Thus, viewers who did not read the source did not learn much interesting from the magical world of Harry Potter. In particular, in the film almost no attention is paid to such an interesting character as Regulus Black. Meanwhile, like his older brother Sirius, he contributed to the overthrow of the Dark Lord. However, for a long time no one knew about his feat.
Regulus Arcturus Black - Sirius Black's younger brother
This representative of the glorious Black family was named after his cousin. The Black family was very ancient and did not have in its ranks unclean or muggle-born wizards (like the mother of Harry Lily). They were considered one of the most revered and wealthy magic families. Because of this, they held the view that only purebred magicians and witches are worthy to live in a magical world. Regulus Black fully supported parental beliefs and, unlike his older brother, was the ideal son that his parents were proud of.
Apparently, in the Black family it was customary to call children by the names of the stars. So the name Regulus is the name of the most important star of the constellation Leo, Sirius is the star in the constellation Canis Major. The boys father was named after the constellation Orion.
The appearance and character of the hero
In the books about Harry Potter there is not so much information about the fate of Regulus, and even more about his habits and character. It mentions that Regulus Black was outwardly a pale copy of his older brother: leaner and lower. However, he still inherited family traits - luxurious dark hair and steel-colored eyes. Yielding to his older brother in external data and charm, Regulus had his own strengths. Judging by the further development of the plot, Regulus Black was much smarter than Sirius. He was also a diligent student and obedient son, so his parents and teachers loved him.

It is worth noting that Regulus Black was sincere in his errors. Unlike Malfoy’s father and son, he believed that purebred magicians were more powerful and worthy to rule the world. When the Dark Lord came to power, Regulus became a Death Eater, not because he was afraid or wanted to earn a better post, but because he really believed in the ideas of Voldemort. Disappointed in his idol, the younger Black found the strength to resist him, which speaks of the hero’s enormous internal strength and refutes the view that he was a mere vile and coward all his life both in the family and at Hogwarts.
Parents of Regulus
The parents of the brothers Regulus and Sirius were Orion and Walburga Black. They loved their sons very much, especially the mother. Of the two brothers, Regulus was the best son, he not only shared the ideals of his parents, but also gave them reasons for pride: at first it was academic success, and then his choice to become a henchman of the Dark Lord.
After many years, in a conversation with Harry, the family house of Blacks will tell that Sirius broke his mother’s heart. Probably, after Sirius escaped from the house and renounced the ideals of his kind, Walburg concentrated all her love on the younger and more worthy, in her opinion, son Regulus.
Sirius and Regulus Black
Due to completely different temperaments, relations between the brothers did not work out. Sirius was a courageous and worthy man, but in his own way short-sighted. However, being charming, he easily knew how to make friends, but did not want to deceive, bustle or be silent when necessary, so it was not easy for him to build a career.
In contrast to his brother, Regulus Black was thoughtful and calm. He did not have a brother's habit of drawing attention to his actions, but this did not prevent the younger Black from achieving success in many areas.
Sirius at first, just out of his youthful audacity, ridiculed the ideals of his parents, and later because of his personal experience (he was friends with Lily Potter, who was a Muggle-born Mudblood and one of the best students at the same time). Regulus tried not to upset his parents. Even disappointed in their ideals, he did not bother or endanger his father and mother.
Regulus probably envied Sirius' vibrant personality. At the same time, he did not even suspect that he, too, was the object of his brother's envy, who, although he did not share parental ideals, at the bottom of his heart regretted that he could not find a common language with them, and his younger brother could.
Sirius died, not knowing about the act of his younger brother and how much he had changed. At the same time, Regulus, while dying, did not know that his brother was not a traitor and a murderer, but a slandered man. At the same time, the brothers were on the same side, but did not know about it.
Studying at Hogwarts
As a representative of an old respected family of purebred magicians, Regulus, of course, became a Slytherin student.
Quite soon, he achieved recognition both among students (he became a catcher of the Slytherin Quidditch team) and among teachers (he was invited to the club of Professor Slughorn, where only especially outstanding students were allowed).
Regulus and the Dark Lord
In early childhood, Regulus was a special admirer of the Dark Lord. He collected articles about him and his photographs. Everything in his room was hung with images of an idol.
As soon as the guy turned sixteen years old, he achieved the fact that he was accepted into the Death Eaters. The younger Black was extremely proud of himself. It is worth noting that, probably, he had close relations with Voldemort, as he easily came to visit him and talked to him. Soon, however, Regulus was bitterly disappointed. Having learned the truth about his idol, he decided to destroy it and did not spare his life for this.
Heroic deed of Regulus
Regulus Black, despite his origin and views, was quite loyal to the elves, while most purebred wizards considered them slaves unworthy of pity. When the Dark Lord asked him to give him the home elf Kikimer for one assignment, Regulus gladly agreed.
As it turned out, Voldemort took advantage of the house to hide the crucifix-locket in the cave. He forced the unfortunate creature to drink the cursed potion from a stone bowl, hid the locket there and poured a new portion of the cruel swill. After that, the Dark Lord left Kikimer in the cave alone, believing that he would die. But the evil wizard underestimated the magic of the lower beings, and the elf was able to return home and tell Regulus what had happened.
Having learned about the true guise of his idol, the disappointed wizard decides to destroy him. Being an incredibly intelligent person, he quickly guessed about the crucifix and its purpose. Regulus decided to destroy this item. Unfortunately, the hero did not take into account the fact that there was more than one crucifix.
Going with the elf to the cave, he drank the potion, replaced the medallion, and remained there to die. Kikimer was sent by the owner home with an order not to tell anyone about what had happened, as well as with the task of destroying an evil object.
For many years, Kikimer did not tell anyone about the fate of his late master. The truth became clear only when the young wizard Harry Potter began to search for the crucifix. Regulus Black has been missing for his family all this time, most of them believed that he was killed by order of the Dark Lord.
Harry Potter Regulus
Despite the fact that this character is a rather important link in the process of destroying crucifixes, very little space was given to him in the film adaptation of novels . In the novels themselves, readers learn about him only from the words of other people (Sirius Black, Kikimer).
For the first time, Regulus is mentioned in the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Speaking with Harry, Professor Slughorn boasts of photographs of his students, mentioning briefly Regulus and wishing he had the chance to teach Sirius as well. In the same film, Harry and his friends, finding a fake crucifix, read a farewell letter enclosed in it with the initials of R. A. B. However, at that time they still do not know who is hiding behind them.
The second and last time the hero of Regulus is mentioned in the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Here, the little house crumpledly talks about his master and the medallion. Unfortunately, the audience will not really know anything about the fate of Regulus: why he replaced the locket, what he wanted to achieve with this and how he died. In fact, his whole feat remains unknown to those who did not read books, but simply watched a film.
Regulus and fans
In the film, information about Regulus Black is negligible. However, especially ardent fans of the magical world and all its characters decided to correct this annoying omission. Realizing that this character, undeservedly deprived of attention, is actually very interesting, many readers created his portraits and photo collages with him.
With the benefits of modern technology, fans of the Harry Potter universe from around the world can keep in touch, discuss controversial epics, share photos, drawings and photo collages, as well as write fanfiction (their own compositions based on books about Harry Potter). Oddly enough, but it was in the creativity of the fans that the character of Regulus received well-deserved recognition. Readers liked his image so much that a lot of amateur works were written about him (“Blood Ties”, “Harry Potter and Regulus Black”, “Strange Artifact”, “Attracting Mirror”, “Fragments”, “We Stand on That” and others). Moreover, especially zealous fans even found him a girlfriend to match his character, and this is no less than the Mudblood of Hermione Granger.
Regulus Black and the girl, of course, of different backgrounds and views, and besides, they live in different eras, but this fans could not stop. In fan fiction dedicated to this pair, as a rule, heroes meet with the help of a magical artifact (often mirrors) during the youth of each of them. Either the Black brothers are revived in some way, and Hermione gets acquainted and falls in love with an already adult hero named Regulus Black. The art of the fans of this couple is truly beautiful and romantic.
The book saga, and then the films about the adventures of the wizard boy, opened up a whole fairy-tale world for many children and adults. Here, evil does not always get what it deserves, and often the most worthy characters die, and villains live for many years.
One of such noble characters, who have not received recognition for their merits, is Regulus Black. The magical world of Harry Potter, described by Joan Rowling, did not worthy of this hero, but readers decided to correct the injustice. They so fell in love with the modest and selfless Regulus that they themselves rewarded him by devoting him many wonderful and touching stories.
