One of the most popular comedians of our time last week turned 57 years old - Jim Carrey celebrated his birthday. Many love movies with him and the artist himself, but do everyone know how he came to success, how he gained popularity? What was Jim Carrey like in childhood? Did he know from an early age that he was waiting for an acting path? Answers to these and other questions can be found in this material.
Childhood
It is difficult to imagine Jim Carrey in childhood (photos are presented in the article) - it seems that he has always been the same as now. Nevertheless, he, like all other people on Earth, did not pass the stage of childhood and adulthood.
The future comedian was born in a simple Canadian family, in the city of Newmarket, and this event happened back in 1962. James's parents - such is Kerry's full name, to be more precise, James Eugene - were ordinary people. Father, Percy, worked as an accountant and was very successful in this position. Her mother, Kathleen, once sang quite well, but the birth of children and the need to housekeeping forced her to leave the profession. So Percy was the main earner in the family, where four of his beloved children grew up (the fourth was little Jim).
The actor is loved by many today for his unique, unsurpassed facial expressions, but, it turns out, this is not acquired from him, but innate - such was Jim Carrey in childhood. He simply loved making faces, and it terribly amused the other children, his classmates and friends. A crowd was always gathering around young James, which he enjoyed, because he liked being in the spotlight.
First attempt to become famous
In addition to gorgeous facial expressions, James from childhood had a talent for parody. He also really liked to parody, he willingly did it, copying everyone around. Not only that, intensely honing his skills, Jim passionately dreamed of becoming a star. And who does not dream about this in childhood? Jim Carrey eventually managed to fulfill his dream, but even then, at the age of 11, he made the first attempt to make himself known. The thing is that James recorded all his parody plots on camera. When the videos accumulated almost a hundred, he sent them to one of the then popular comedy TV shows. Sent - and with bated breath he was waiting for an answer. But, unfortunately, he was not answered, and they were not invited to the shooting. Nevertheless, the very fact that the 11-year-old boy was not afraid to do everything that was in his power at that moment of his life to fulfill his dream already indicates a lot.
First performance and first failure
Looking at how successful Kerry is now, it's hard to imagine what could have been otherwise once. Nevertheless, there were failures in the artist’s life, and the first of them occurred when Jim was only 14 years old.
Then in their family difficult times came. Father was fired from his job, and Kerry, who had previously lived poorly, learned in full what means a lack of money. In search of money, they wandered around the country for a while, until they settled in a suburb of Toronto, where their father got a job as a security guard at a car factory, and his children, including Jim, were cleaners in the same factory to somehow make ends meet make ends.
Of course, Jim was not going to work as a cleaner his whole life. He continued to dream about fame, about the career of an artist. And the father, who had not previously had a career as a saxophonist, supported the aspiration of his son. But since he could not financially help him, he decided to help in another way. Together with Jim himself, they wrote the text of the speech for him, and then his father brought the future comedian to the Yak-Yak club in Toronto and agreed on a speech. It is not known whether the father and son expected a grand reception and instant public recognition, but they did not expect failure at all. Nevertheless, it was precisely the failure that happened - Jim was booed. He left the stage in a depressed state. This event greatly influenced the young Kerry - he became isolated in himself and swore to show his comedic talent.
Hamilton
In the biography of Jim Carrey (celebrity photos are presented in the article) there were many moves. Soon after an unsuccessful performance, his family started off again - this time they moved to the town of Hamilton in Ontario, where his father found work in a steel mill. Financial affairs got better, the Toronto debacle was a bit forgotten, and Jim perked up.
He began attending Aldershot High School, and then began to work with his father. As he himself later admitted, the huge workshops fascinated him, he liked this work, and if it had not been for the dream of the stage, he would certainly have stayed at the factory in Hamilton.
In his youth, Jim Carrey (photos are presented in the article) was very beautiful, and he did not take charm and charisma. That is precisely why, when he ventured to show his talents again in Eldershot, he immediately gained admirers.
Together with friends, they founded a musical group with which they performed at school holidays and parties. And besides this, James was preparing something else: he dreamed of a rematch. A few years after his disastrous performance in Toronto, he returned to the Yak-Yak. And this time, Jim left the scene in triumph. This performance became a landmark for him ...
Yak-Yak
17-year-old James, who grew up as a handsome, stately guy, that night in Yak Yak noticed Litrais Spivak, the manager who took the young man under his wing. With the help of Spivak, Jim became a star, as he wanted to - though so far only of a local scale. However, all further performances of Kerry in “Yak-Yak” made a splash. On the day Jim spoke, a full house was going to the club. True glory was prophesied to him, and this prophecy came true when Rodney Dangerfield, a popular comedian in those years, looked into the club.
"Hollywood"
Dangerfield immediately liked James, and he appreciated the talent of the guy. So high that he invited him to work at his opening act. Not somewhere, but in Las Vegas. Of course, Jim agreed without hesitation. Hollywood shone near Las Vegas, and it was the ambitious Canadian who dreamed of getting there.
In 1981, Jim moved to Las Vegas. However, Dangerfield did not work long - Hollywood beckoned him too, and soon with a small bundle of things, Kerry moved to this magical world. He got a job at the Los Angeles Comedy Club "Kameli Shop" and began to go to all kinds of auditions. And he was soon noticed: in 1982, Jim Carrey made his debut in one of the stand-up shows.
Up the career ladder
In 1983, Kerry began acting in films, but all those films were either low-budget and were not intended for mass viewing, or were generally sitcoms. James dreamed of a real, full-fledged large meter that would make him a world celebrity. The dream came true in 1993, when Kerry was lucky enough to take part in the comedy film "Ace Ventura: Pet Search." Since then, the climb up the career ladder of that Jim Carrey, whom we know and love now.
A bit about personal
Both in youth and childhood, and now Jim Carrey (pictured in the material) was successful with the opposite sex. However, for some reason this did not help the actor’s family life. He was married twice. He first entered into an official marriage with actress Melissa Womer in 1987. In this marriage, the daughter of Jane was born, but the couple divorced in 1995.
Kerry's divorce survived very painfully and hard, but was able to stand on his feet. A year later, he remarried - to actress Lauren Holly. This marriage lasted less than a year, and since then the actor has not connected himself with official ties to anyone. These oddities in the personal life of Jim Carrey, many associate with his passion for work.
