Is a brain cyst dangerous in newborns

A cyst of the brain in newborns is formed as a result of accumulation of fluid filling the places of dead tissue in various parts of the brain. Education is a ball filled with water.

In some cases, it can form in the region of the walls of the membrane that have stuck together as a result of the inflammatory process. Liquid enters into such a cohesive cavity through tiny cracks, forming a cyst. It can appear in any part of the brain and have one or more formations on one or both sides of the head.

The cyst of the brain in newborns is of three types: vascular plexus, arachnoid and subependimal.

The cystic vascular plexus in most cases is detected in the child at the stage of intrauterine formation. Education that occurred in the early stages of pregnancy is considered to be quite normal and it usually disappears at a certain period.

The causes of formations that appeared at a later stage, after the birth of the baby, can be infections and various inflammations suffered by a woman during pregnancy. A cyst of the brain in newborns can be a consequence of a difficult birth and a difficult pregnancy. Quite often, the cause of the development of a cyst is ordinary herpes.

Arachnoid or cerebrospinal fluid cysts of the brain, which can form anywhere in the brain, have various sizes and shapes. It occurs against the background of inflammatory processes, for example, meningitis, circulatory disorders of the brain of the head, as well as with trauma.

Arachnoid formation has a progressive character, with time it grows in volume, exerting pressure on adjacent centers of the brain (motor, visual and others). In newborn children with such an education, the following manifestations may be present:

- violation of coordination of movement;

- plentiful regurgitation;

- delayed physical and psychomotor development.

Subependymal cyst of the brain in newborns is an education that requires constant monitoring. The main reason for its appearance is insufficient circulation of the brain of the head in the ventricles. The lack of oxygen provokes the death of tissues, on the site of which a cavity forms, which is further filled with liquid.

With the progressive nature of education, the passage of magnetic resonance imaging is prescribed several times a year. The rapid growth of the cyst causes an increase in the pressure of the fluid formed in it. The liquid, exerting pressure on nearby tissues, changes their position, which can cause deterioration of the general condition, aggravation of neurological symptoms and seizures.

Diagnostics

Brain cysts in newborns are detected by ultrasound. Such a study is completely harmless to the baby and does not carry any radiation load on the child's body. The first examination of the baby is done even during intrauterine formation. The next study is done after birth, usually after a month.

Treatment

The vascular plexus cyst usually does not require treatment and spontaneously resolves in the first year after birth. In these cases, it is necessary to identify and eliminate the cause of education.

Subependymal cysts also do not require intensive care. In this case, constant monitoring and some examinations are necessary.

Arachnoid cysts require special attention and radical measures. Such cysts do not dissolve on their own and are actively progressing. The child should be constantly monitored by a neurologist, and most often, according to indications, surgical treatment is necessary . Cysts of the brain are not treated with folk remedies.
