The sonorous name “mojito” hides a magnificent refreshing drink, which first came to the strict trial of tasters on the distant “island of Freedom” - Cuba. The taste of the mojito cocktail is sweet and sour, very refreshing and invigorating, which is better than anything in the summer. The drink, born under the generous Cuban sun, in its classic version conveys to those who drink the amazing energy of the Cubans, the unusual smell of the exciting sea breeze, the gentle warmth of golden sands. And all this thanks to the tart notes of juicy lime, the light bitterness of traditional rum and the cold-burning freshness of mint.
From a historical point of view, the mojito recipe owes its appearance to the famous pirate Drake, who first prepared the original drink, deciding to mix rum and sugar in one container and dilute the sweet taste with tart lime and refreshing mint. With his light hand, mojito spread to all countries of South America, not excluding Cuba, where it received a new birth in 1862, after the creation of the Bacardi company.
Mojito cocktail is very popular in the modern world, but very often those who make it at their discretion (do not mean professional bartenders, who for the most part carry out all the subtleties of creating this drink), not keeping the mojito recipe, without using special glasses and without decorating it as required by tradition. It is for those who want to try this drink the way it should be, you must specify all the rules of the yoke of manufacture. Firstly, the main detail - the glasses - should be tall, those that are called "highball". Secondly, the composition itself: there are two types of mojito, alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The first includes five traditional ingredients: white rum, sugarcane juice or just sugar, lime juice, mint and sparkling water. A non-alcoholic mojito recipe, or, as the Cubans themselves call it “nohito” and “virgin mojito”, contains the same ingredients, only fruits are added to it instead of white rum.
To make such cocktails at home is very simple. For example, here is a mojito recipe with a sprite, for which the following ingredients are needed - white rum (60 ml.), Mint (4-5 pcs.), Lime, cane sugar (2 cubic meters), a little sprite and crushed ice. Lime should be cut into two halves, squeeze the juice from one into a high glass, pour with sugar and put mint leaves torn into several parts. Next, the mixture must be thoroughly mixed, add the second half of lime (cut into several pieces) to it, pour out the ice so as to fill the glass by two-thirds. The rest of the space is filled in equal parts by rum and sprite. Serve this Cuban miracle to the table after it is decorated with mint leaves.
A delicious cocktail can be made in a slightly different way - if you use this recipe, non-alcoholic strawberry mojito, the drink will turn out to be unusually delicious. You need to take lime juice (squeezed half of lime), brown cane sugar (10 g.), Strawberries (100 g.), Fresh mint leaves (2-3 pcs.), A little sparkling water and crushed ice. First of all, berries are laid out in a high glass, sprinkled with sugar and knead with a spoon until juice appears. Then lime juice, torn mint leaves, which are again kneading with a spoon, as well as ice and water, are sent to the glass.
For those who are interested in the classic Mojito recipe, it is worth recalling: the ingredients for it are white rum, lime, cane, brown sugar, mint and ice. All ingredients are mixed in turn, starting with mint, and ending with it, placing a few leaves on top of the finished cocktail. It is necessary to drink it necessarily cold, until finally crushed ice has melted and the magic smell of freedom-loving Cuba has evaporated.
