"Telekinesis". Actors remake

The new adaptation of the debut work of Stephen King's “Carrie” 2013 film “Telekinesis” (actors: H. G. Moretz, D. Moore, D. Greer, P. Doubleday, G. Wilde, E. Elgort and others) is a solid remake the classic thriller of Brian De Palma. A great introductory film manual for those who did not watch the brainchild of Palma and did not read King's novel.

Remake and original

The canonical adaptation of "Carrie" was the film directed by Brian De Palma, which was released in the world film distribution in 1976. She exceeded her budget twenty times and designated the charismatic John Travolta and the beautiful Sissy Spacek as future movie stars of the first magnitude.

"Telekinesis" is a film whose actors are not so famous and promising. However, the tape does not spoil the rolling grid much, while the new film adaptation follows the episodes of the film of 76 years almost frame by frame. Director Kimberly Pierce received a lot of feedback that her remake and the outskirts of the original picture is not suitable, however, they are completely inappropriate. The fact is that all the special effects of De Palma, impressing the viewer in the late 70s, today look naive and extremely archaic. But Kimberly Pierce, what not to occupy, is the ability to make films about outsiders (“Guys Don't Cry”). Although Telekinesis (the actors and roles were personally selected by Pierce personally) is the third work of the director over the past 15 years, she has not lost her professionalism.

Cast

Telekinesis is a film whose actors deserve all praise. The cast of the film can safely be called successful. The beautiful actress Julianne Moore is unusual and even bitterly contemplated in age roles, nevertheless, her dedication to the role causes delight and admiration. To portray a heroine who, in order to keep herself in good shape, beats her forehead against the wall or tries to imperceptibly put herself an awl in her leg, is not easy. The film "Telekinesis", the actors and roles of which have long been the subject of fierce debate by film critics, would have been bold without her participation. In the image of a fanatic mother, she looks like a religious zombie. Gloomy, radiating hatred of everything bright, cheerful and just alive, absorbed in self-torture, ignores any outbursts of human emotions.

The choice of the actress by the director among the applicants for the main role was successful and even flawless. Chloe Moretz, despite her 16 years, managed to play a lot of roles, among which the image of a girl with wolf eyes and obvious problems with the psyche and control of anger dominates (“Kick”, “Let Me In”). Although cede Kimberly to the urgent requests of Stephen King and made Lindsey Lohan star in the movie, the movie “Telekinesis” (the actors talked about it) might have been even more curious.

Unlike remake

The main and decisive difference between the remake of Pierce from the original De Palma was the age of the leading woman who played Carrie. Guided by no understand, De Palma chose the role of a schoolgirl, albeit a youthful, but still 26-year-old actress Sissy Spacek, which instantly distinguished the character from those around her, gave the heroine much needed features - strangeness and detachment. Pierce has a very pretty, but 16-year-old Chloe Gray Moretz in all respects is a typical teenager schoolgirl. To stand out among other performers, Sissy just had to appear in the frame, and Chloe had to try. From the first appearance of her heroine on the screen, the actress deliberately timidly looks around, stoop, hunch, i.e. in every possible way depicts the harassment ingrained in the heroine. This technique resembles the play of an amateur theater, but it gives the film “Telekinesis” (the actors just exactly followed the director’s directions) the uniqueness of colors and artistic exaggeration. This hypertrophy becomes one of the main techniques of the director.

Other versions. Common features, differences

In addition to the brainchild of De Palma and the Broadway musical 88, there is a television version of King's novel with Patricia Clarkson and Angela Bettis in the lead roles. Televersion has a longer running time, and its creators were more reverent about the spirit of the literary source. Actors called "Telekinesis" "Carrie", because only in the domestic box office was the original name changed. And this film, in contrast to the television version, is more likely dedicated to the picture of De Palma, and not to King's book. It is the same chamber as the first film adaptation. In the chamber, in the lyricism and atmospheric, lies the special charm of “Carrie” from Kimberly Pierce.
