Ventolin. Instructions: indications

The drug is prescribed for the relief (elimination) of seizures in bronchial asthma, including with exacerbation of pathology in a severe course. The medication is also prescribed to prevent bronchospasm caused by physical stress or associated with the influence of an allergen.

Ventolin instruction allows for use in the treatment of bronchial asthma in complex therapy. The drug is also indicated for COPD accompanied by obstruction in the airways of a reversible nature, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis.

Ventolin instruction is not recommended for use with hypersensitivity, the threat of abortion, preterm birth, up to two years of age.

Adults are prescribed one or two inhalations (100-200 mcg) for bronchospasm to eliminate the attack. In order to prevent the development of paroxysmal conditions, ventolin is recommended for use ten to fifteen minutes before exposure to an irritating factor. The dosage in this case is two inhalations (200 mcg), for children - one or two (100-200 mcg).

With prolonged maintenance therapy, children and adults are recommended to use the drug four times a day. The dosage in this case is two inhalations at a time.

The use of the drug during lactation and during gestation is allowed on the recommendation and under the constant supervision of a specialist. In the course of some studies, the ability of the active component - salbutamol - to penetrate into lactating milk was revealed. However, there is no information about any effect of the substance on the condition of the newborn during feeding. If it is necessary to use the drug "Ventolin", the instruction recommends consulting with a doctor.

The active substance upon penetration into the body can cause minor tremor of skeletal muscles, the severity of which is most observed in the upper limbs. This side effect is characteristic of beta 2-adrenergic agonists.

In some cases, when taking ventolin, patients experience a headache. There is also a compensatory increase in the frequency of contractions of the heart of an insignificant nature, expansion in the peripheral vessels. In some cases, reactions associated with high sensitivity may occur - collapse, angioedema, bronchospasm, urticaria, arterial hypotension. Muscle cramps, tachycardia are also likely.

In some people, an inhaled drug can cause paradoxical bronchospasm, which must be immediately eliminated by using a different dosage form of salbutamol or another fast-acting bronchodilator. In this case, the use of aerosol "Ventolin" should be discontinued. After examination and assessment of the patient's condition, if necessary, symptomatic treatment is prescribed.

In some cases, the patient after applying the inhaler may feel irritation of the mucous membrane of the pharynx or oral cavity.

The attending physician should instruct the patient on the proper use of the inhaler.
