There are a lot of musical instruments in the world. A person far from this art may be interested in: “Flute - what is it?” This instrument belongs to the group of woodwinds. Such an unusual classification has already ruined many students of music schools in the control. Despite the fact that today this tool is most often found in metal, it was originally made of wood.
What became the progenitor of a flute
The first flutes were longitudinal. They arose from an ordinary reed pipe. Unlike their ancestor, the flutes cut the air stream edges, replacing the traditional tongue, which is used in other
wind instruments. The flute range is traditionally from the first to the fourth octave. The lower case is slightly dull.
Even in ancient times, people used the flute. What this tool represents is known in Egypt and Greece. The most ancient flutes in these countries were discovered during excavations. Scientists believe that they were used before our era. Then the musicians held them upright, and the main material for the manufacture was reed and wood.
Fancy Tool Varieties
Now it’s easy to understand what the flute looks like, what it is (photo below) and where it is used. In modern musical groups, it is held horizontally, since this instrument is most often transverse. This has been the case since the nineteenth century, when German master Boehm perfected the flute. Gradually, in the orchestras, everyone switched to using an updated instrument.
In addition to changing the location of the air hole, Boehm was able to modernize the system of finger holes (they began to be arranged according to acoustic principles), put in a valve system, improved intonation and sound, first used metal. Orchestras use a variety of flutes. What is it by classification, it can be found out only after careful consideration. Most often, the orchestras use the classic version and piccolo, which has the highest sound and smaller sizes.
Use in music
In classical music, the flute is most often used. What this instrument is, many famous composers knew. Sergei Prokofiev in his symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” gave the flute a piece of bird. It is this hero, according to the composer, who is most suitable for the sound of the instrument. Rimsky-Korsakov prescribed the parts for this instrument in the opera The Snow Maiden. There flute passages were used to convey a frosty mood. In his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, a piccolo flute is used, which plays the part of a squirrel gnawing golden nuts.
Modern musicians also use the flute. What is it, most often rock musicians know. For some time, flutist Yan Nikolenko performed with the Bi-2 band. Vladimir Kuzmin, who can be attributed to multi-instrumental musicians, often uses a flute in his concerts. He independently writes music and gives solo parts to the flute. The folk group "Mill" also has a flutist - Sergei Zaslavsky.
