A handsome teenager was repeatedly invited to film, but Shevelkov refused for a long time, because he did not dream of an acting career. After school, he easily entered the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute, and not by vocation, but because it was easiest to pass exams at this university.

In the first year, Vladimir was advised to call the Lenfilm film studio. Just at that time, the directors Ernest Yasan and Nikolai Lebedev were looking for the main character for their film, "Please Blame Claud K. For My Death." Shevelkov, although he doubted, but still called, and he was invited to sample. After long rehearsals and photo tests, Vladimir was approved for the main role.
