In general, it is prepared easily and simply, but it looks quite solid and presentable. Yes, herring cake can overshadow Olivier with a "fur coat" at the winter (and not only) festive feast. And since it is an absolute hit and a culinary novelty - the appetizer is obtained not just some obscure, but on top! Very tender, melts (without exaggeration) in the mouth, leaving behind a delicate aftertaste of herring. Waffle cake herring cake: a basic recipe

For execution, we will need very simple ingredients: wafer shortcakes - packaging, one large slightly salted herring, 3 eggs, 2 carrots, 150 grams of hard cheese, Provence mayonnaise - for dressing, greens - for decoration.

Practical part

  1. We put boil eggs and carrots.
  2. In the meantime, we start cleaning the fish. It is necessary to cut it by the type of fillet, removing the seeds and removing the skin (of course, having previously pulled out the insides and separating the head). Then we cut the main product into small strips or cubes, as you prefer.
  3. Wash our hands and remove the eggs and carrots from the water. Cool and clean. Dice finely or coarsely with three on a grater.

Dish assembly

  1. We begin to collect our herring cake. We put a few drops of mayonnaise on the dish and lay the first cake (just like that, it will be better to stay on the plane).
  2. We apply the first layer of mayonnaise, then half the amount of herring. Lightly coat with mayonnaise.
  3. Cover again with cake. We also smear it with mayonnaise, and grated carrots on top.
  4. Next, put the next cake, again mayonnaise - and already sprinkle with an egg.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 again.
  6. Lubricate the topmost layer with mayonnaise and grate the cheese on top coarsely.
  7. From above, you can decorate with egg slices and fresh chopped greens.

About mayonnaise

And if you do not tolerate various food additives, then you can always cook it yourself with a blender - this is easy. You will need vegetable oil (preferably olive), eggs, mustard. The more oil you inject, the higher the percentage of fat content. All components of homemade sauce should be placed in a blender and beat until thick. That's all - it is possible to grease cakes without any fear. Those who donโ€™t really like this ingredient in salads at all can be advised to coat a small amount of crusts. Of course, they will be worse saturated, but herring cake will become "dietary", if this word is generally applicable to this dish. Well, or at worst - take mayonnaise with a lower percentage of fat content (20-30%).

We perform the following actions:

  1. Cook vegetables, eggs, cool and clean.
  2. All of the above boiled components are three on a grater separately.
  3. We clean herring from skins and viscera. We remove the head and take out the bones, as for a fillet. Then cut into cubes or strips.
  4. On the prepared dish, put a round cake made of waffles. We coat it with mayonnaise.
  5. Above is a layer of herring. Then the potato. And one more cake.
  6. Grease with mayonnaise again. A layer of carrots and beets. Cake and mayonnaise again.
  7. Repeat the sequence in the same order. We coat the topmost cake with mayonnaise and sprinkle with a layer of grated egg and cheese (you can do without it).

About the onion

Preparatory work

  • Boil the carrots in advance, let it cool.
  • Fry mushrooms with onions, not too coarsely chopped.
  • Clean the herring, as on a fillet: remove the skin, remove the fins with bones, separate the ridge.
  • Grind the fillet and 1 peeled onion in a blender.
  • Grate the carrots.
  • Grind the cooled mushrooms in a blender.
  • Grate the cheese finely, and chop the greens with olives medium-sized.

Assembly

  • He goes with a carrot. We also soak it with mayonnaise.
  • After this layer, repeat the steps: herring / mushrooms / carrots. And the last of the layers with carrots is thoroughly pressed with grated cheese, greased with mayonnaise.
  • Decorate herring cake with olives and chopped herbs. By the way, if you still have the filling, the layers can be repeated. So it will be much tastier!
  • We send the finished product down the refrigerator so that it is infused for several hours. There, the cake will be soaked, it will sit a little, it will become completely ready for serving on the holiday table. By the way, instead of a herring, you can use both mackerel and large herring. A dish with smoked fish looks very interesting.
