In these parts, in the 17th century, a married-up girl should have the ability to cook different types of such treats.
Confiture traditionally is a very thick jelly with small pieces of fruit or whole berries. In France, it was originally made from quince, apricots and apples, later the culinary masters began to add the juice of currants or cherries, which gave the dessert a special aroma and taste. Also gradually vanilla, citric acid, gelatin, starch and other thickeners became permanent ingredients of the treat.
