Sergey Kalantai was born in Kiev in 1964. In the capital of the Ukrainian SSR, he graduated from high school. After he entered the National University of Theater, Film and Television.
He studied at the creative workshop of the People's Artist of Ukraine Valentina Zimnaya. In 1985 he received the diploma of a dramatic actor in theater and cinema.
Big screen debut
The first role in the movie Sergey Kalantai played back in 1982. His debut took place in the melodrama of Boris Savchenko, "Before the war." In it, events unfold in the summer of 1939 in a remote Siberian village. In the center of the story is Paradise Kolotovkina, who settles with her uncle.
In the village they show the film "If tomorrow is war." At the same time, residents are almost completely informationally isolated, they receive news only with a steamboat, which from time to time resides in the village.
Sergey Kalantai played in this picture the role of one of the Paradise brothers.
In parallel, the actor begins to play in the Variety Theater and in the Youth Theater of Kiev. But soon he was drafted into the army. Returning to civilian life, he joined the troupe of the famous Ukrainian Theater in Podil, where he worked for five years.
In the early 90's, she became a laureate at the competition of variety artists in Uzhgorod.
Career abroad
Soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the hero of our article decides on emigration. He leaves for permanent residence in Germany. Settles in Munich.
Since the mid-90s, he is known as an actor in the Munich theater with the original name "Fish and Plastic". Over time, begins teaching. He teaches the basics of theatrical art of his German colleagues at the state theater school, while simultaneously participating not only in German, but also in Swiss and Austrian television projects.
In 2000, he got a job as a teacher at a private theater school located in Bourhausen in Bavaria. From that time on, she began performing on the stage of the EXPO 2000 project. He is already studying at the German Higher School of Acting, receiving the specialization of actor and director.
Return to Russia
The actor still lives in Germany, but in recent years he has become actively involved in domestic projects.
At the moment, he has more than a dozen main roles and almost a hundred supporting roles in Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian films and television projects.
In 2008, Sergey Kalantai played in the drama television series Valery Todorovsky "Thaw". The filmography of the actor then began to regularly replenish with new projects in Russian.
At the same time, he managed to work abroad. For example, in the same year he starred in the drama of David Green's “The Godmother”. In this picture, he worked on the same set with Nastasya Kinsky and Vanessa Redgrave.
Domestic viewers well remembered him for his main role in the melodramatic series Euphrosyne. For the first three seasons, he plays Boris Martynov.
In 2010 he starred in the military drama Anatoly Mateshko "Two" about Soviet partisans who, during the Great Patriotic War, were given the responsible task of capturing a German encryption apparatus together with an encryptor. The hero of our article gets the role of the sergeant-major Rainer.
