Action, melodramatic, and comedy plots are often revealed through the themes of secret organizations that rule the world, virtual reality, and wanderings in time. However, an aged cyberpunk-style anime is not common. For several decades of the development of Japanese animation, a modest number of works has been devoted to the genre. Only a few hand-drawn ribbons really deserve the attention of the audience. In our publication, we present a list of anime in the style of cyberpunk, which are considered mandatory for true fans of the genre.
"The beaten dogs"
The plot of the anime "Beaten Dogs" revolves around a girl named Hana Togetsu, who suffers due to turmoil in the family. Another problem suddenly falls on the character’s head. The mechanism monitors the mental state of the population, trying to find out how individual people are located to commit crimes. Stress-resistant individuals are not at risk of being detained. However, potential villains are expected to be taken into custody and sent to compulsory treatment. People capable of killing are threatened with instant destruction on the spot without trial or investigation.
According to the visual component, the animation creation does not look too fresh by modern standards. The world here is filled with smart cars, all kinds of drones and smart homes. However, keeping track of cunning criminals who seek to trick the Sibyl system is really interesting.
Blame
Cyberpunk-style stories often tell about the difficult existence of androids among people. In the world of the Blame animated film, humanity has long been struggling to survive with enslaving the population by artificial intelligence. Robots endlessly build megalopolises that sweep vast territories. Any person discovered by machines will certainly be destroyed.
The anime tells of a mysterious hero named Killy, who seeks to regain people's dominance over mechanisms. The guy travels the world, saving the remains of survivors. The story is presented in an entertaining, distinctive style. The world around us looks realistic. The plot is filled with unusual, interesting characters, which I want to follow and share experiences.
"Accelerated World"
The future in the animated film looks like the Matrix. Artificial intelligence rules the world. Virtual reality is available to everyone. You can enter the system from anywhere in the world. Despite the dominance of intelligent machines, the population does not suffer from oppression by robots, a totalitarian regime. In the universe of the tape "Accelerated World" there is no devastation and war.
The central character of the picture, named Harayuki Arite, is a self-confident weak teenager. However, the guy is a real ace when playing computer games. In an effort to find a new interesting occupation, the hero is faced with entertainment, participation in which allows you to change the real world. The boy decides to take part in the game, intending to achieve success and change the surrounding reality.
Exella
The hand-drawn short story introduces the viewer to the world destroyed by a mysterious catastrophe on a global scale. Mankind survives in the impenetrable darkness that has enveloped the planet. Resources are running out. Chaos caused the death of almost the entire population. Among the survivors were small groups of people whose heartbeat is supported by special technologies. The remains of humanity are placed in automated underground bunkers and are in a state of sleep.
The anime "Exella" talks about a young girl who suddenly wakes up as a result of a system failure. The heroine does not remember absolutely nothing about her own personality, does not understand the reasons for such a cardinal change in the world. The character intends to restore the gaps in his memory, as well as to find those who will help find the answer to your questions.
Cyborg 009
The authors of the animated film give a look at an alternative version of the world order of the beginning of the XXI century. In the largest cities of the world at the same time a series of explosions is heard that cause the destruction of skyscrapers. The terrorist attack gives rise to global chaos. "Animatrix"
An outstanding anime in the style of kiperpunk gives you the opportunity to take a fresh look at the cult story from the Wachowski brothers, learn a lot of unknown about the world where the eternal struggle between the remnants of mankind and treacherous machines takes place. In his creation, Japanese director Mahiro Maeda sheds light on the creation of a virtual world. A saga of nine drawn short stories tells about the formation of the first rebel conglomerates, intending to defeat uncontrolled artificial intelligence. The entourage is full of colorful panoramas of futuristic megalopolis, bizarre laboratories, shabby slums dominated by bikers on fantastic motorcycles. The short story immerses the viewer in a world that looks frighteningly realistic. Thanks to the attention of the authors to small details and incredible action, the tape looks in one go.
Ergo Proxy
A bright representative of the genre is doing everything possible to please the viewer from the first minutes. Authors of anime use detailed graphics, a non-standard picture in pastel colors for Japanese works. Of particular note is the thoughtful plot, which makes you reflect on the many aspects of life. The series is replete with references to the creations of popular culture and philosophical considerations.
The events of the animated film take place in the distant future. The main character lives in a post-apocalyptic metropolis enclosed under a dome. The girl will investigate a series of murders committed by artificial intelligence. However, the case leads the girl on the path to learning the secrets of the fantasy world and the hidden sides of society.
Armitage III
The anime in the style of cyberpunk was shot in the format of a mini-series, where Japanese motifs are only partially traced. The plot twists and turns are inspired in many respects by the cult creations “Remember All” and “Blade Runner”. The tape tells about the adventures of a policeman named Ross, who is investigating the murder of the famous android singer on the planet Mars. The hero seeks to overtake the guilty along with his partner Armitage. The girl turns out to be one of the smart cars on which the criminal opened the hunt.
"Ghost in armor"
An animated film based on hand-drawn works of the Japanese artist Masamune Shiro has long had the status of a real classic of the genre. In the center of the plot is the story of the adventures of a cyborg girl who hunts down a mysterious hacker. The mysterious terrorist seeks to establish the power of artificial intelligence over humanity.
The graphics of the anime “Ghost in the Shell” are seriously ahead of their time. The tape was removed using advanced technology of the 90s of the last century.
