“Idiot” is one of the best and deepest works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. Filmmakers have repeatedly turned to the work of the great Russian writer. The novel "Idiot" was filmed many times. Actors and roles in foreign and Russian films according to the book of Dostoevsky - the topic of the article.
Film of Peter Chardynin
In 1910, the premiere of the first film adaptation of the novel "Idiot" took place. The actors who played in this film are Lyubov Varyagina, Andrei Gromov, Pavel Biryukov, Arseny Bibikov, Antonina Pozharskaya. Chardynin's short film consists of only ten scenes. The first shows a racing train, in one of the wagons of which the heroes of Dostoevsky are sent to the capital. The second is the scene of Myshkin’s acquaintance with Rogozhin. The following shows only the key points in the plot of the novel. The director highlighted such fragments from the book as Rogozhin’s attempt to kill the prince, Myshkin’s walk with Aglaya along the Neva, Nastasya’s escape from the church.
And in the final scene - the last meeting of the prince with Rogozhin, which occurred after the murder of Nastasya Filippovna.
The film of Ivan Pyryev
This film was supposed to consist of two series. But the second part was never taken off. Why was the film “The Idiot” (1958) not complete? The actors who played in this film adaptation are Yuri Yakovlev, Yulia Borisova, Nikita Podgorny. The film was awarded positive reviews by film critics. But only the first part. The second performer refused the shootings. Yuri Yakovlev became so accustomed to the image of Prince Myshkin that he remained in a difficult state of mind for a long time. Ivan Pyryev, in turn, refused to invite another actor.
"Crazy love"
The film, created by Andrzej Zhulavsky, is also based on Dostoevsky’s book The Idiot. The leading actors are French movie stars Sophie Marceau and Francis Huster. However, the action of this film is not happening in Russia of the nineteenth century, but in France of the twentieth century. The director of the film stated that such a bold interpretation of the famous plot was created in order to pay tribute to the great Russian classic.
"Nastasya"
In 1994, the Polish director Andrzej Wajda created, perhaps, the most unusual adaptation of the novel "Idiot". Actors who performed the heroes of Dostoevsky, Bando Tamasaburo, Toshiyuki Nagashima. It is noteworthy that in the film the roles of Myshkin and Nastasya Filippovna were played by the same artist. Moreover, Bando Tamasaburo had no doubt that he would be able to create a female image on the screen. But the role of the prince caused the actor some trepidation. The fact is that Bando Tamasaburo played exclusively women for thirty years.
Painting by Vladimir Bortko
In 2002, the multi-part film "Idiot" was released on Russian screens. Actors brilliantly played the role of complex, contradictory heroes of Dostoevsky. This film adaptation is by far the best. The TEFI and Golden Eagle awards were awarded to the creators of the television movie Idiot. Actors and roles:
- Evgeny Mironov (Prince Myshkin).
- Lidia Velezheva (Nastasya Filippovna).
- Vladimir Mashkov (Rogozhin).
The success of the series by Vladimir Bortko is due to the talented directorial work and stellar cast. The film was played by such artists as Inna Churikova, Vladimir Ilyin, Oleg Basilashvili, Mikhail Boyarsky, Alexander Lazarev, Larisa Malevannaya.
In Bortko's painting, the spirit of Russia of the mid-nineteenth century is maximally conveyed. The director was extremely careful about the texts of Dostoevsky. Actors reproduced separate dialogues in full accordance with the literary source.
Other adaptations
In 1951, Japanese filmmakers embarked on the imperishable novel of Dostoevsky. However, when writing the script, they did not use names that were not resonant for the ears of compatriots. And therefore, Rogozhin became Denkiti Akamo, Myshkin - Kameda. The film, of course, takes place in Japan. The plot of the novel was otherwise preserved.
In 2001, the Russian director Roman Kachanov created a film-parody of the book of Dostoevsky. The interpretation of the classic was so bold that it caused more negative reviews than positive. Fedor Bondarchuk in the movie "Down House" played an eccentric prince. Ivan Okhlobystin - Rogozhina. The picture takes place in the nineties of the twentieth century. All the realities of this difficult period in the history of Russia are presented. Moscow society is shown in satirical form with the “new Russians” present in it.
