It is gratifying to see that in addition to political, religious and traditional holidays in our lives there remains a place for those significant dates that are associated with art. Among such events, it is worth highlighting the International Cinema Day, which is traditionally celebrated on December 28.

The history of the holiday dates back to the distant 1895. It was then, in the evening of December 28, in Paris, the film premiere took place. In the “Grand Cafe”, the famous Lumiere brothers already at that time presented the Cinematograph apparatus patented by them. With his help, the public was shown a short film. It is worth noting that on the first day of cinema very few people gathered who watched the emergence of a new art form. Perhaps the film itself was uninteresting (it was called "Exit of Workers from the Lumiere Factory"), or the brothers themselves did not inspire confidence in the public. Nevertheless, it was they who gave impetus to the development of a new art form, which today is shown on plasma panels in the widest, sometimes inaccessible to the human eye, color range.

This picture was followed by the following - “Arrival of the train at La Ciotat station”. During this short silent film, viewers left their seats in a panic. They believed that the approaching train was real and could carry everything in the area. That is how Cinema Day was remembered for those citizens who decided to be the first to know this genre. Soon, short scenes, the duration of which was several minutes, scattered throughout Europe. Cinema came to Russia in 1908. Then, in St. Petersburg, the picture "Ponizovaya Volnitsa" was shot, which lasted 7 minutes.
Gradually, the quality of the manufactured film and the equipment with which films were shot grew. By the 20s of the last century, silent cinema had reached the apotheosis of its development. We can say with full confidence that then cinema captured the whole world: narrative paintings were shown in Europe, in Russia and in America. Around then, people began to celebrate Cinema Day. It was the most significant date for directors, actors and fans of the new art form. Cinemas were being built with great speed, in which city residents began to go in droves.
In our country, the situation with the celebration has developed a little differently. For ideological reasons, the country's leadership decided that Soviet cinema could not celebrate its main holiday on an equal basis with all other countries. In 1979, it was decided that the Day of Russian Cinema will now be on August 27th. Since then, all domestic actors, directors and their fans pay tribute to the cinema on this day.
In the world, among numerous nominations, parties in honor of the premieres and other events, Cinema Day is celebrated. 2013 was no exception, and in Hollywood, as well as in cities where the film industry has developed, there was a magnificent festival. There are no nominees or winners at such an event. Here everyone gathers only to remember how the first silent film was born, which gave rise to the greatest dream factory and a new kind of art.
