Who is Mark Rudinstein? This is a famous filmmaker, producer and actor. 2016 was a jubilee year for him - this great man turned 70 years old. The long time for which Rudinstein managed to do a lot. He became the founding father of one of the most important film festivals in Russia, received the title of Honored Artist, put on several films and starred in many roles himself. Rudinshtein’s childhood was in the difficult post-war years, when the country was just beginning to recover from a devastating war. Mark was born in Odessa in a Jewish family. And this origin almost brought the future actor to the wrong bandit path.
At school, among the students, he was the only representative of the Jewish people, and therefore was constantly subjected to attacks from peers. And when another child from a Jewish family came to the educational institution where little Mark studied, they naturally became friends. The best way to protect, as you know, is to attack, so it is not surprising that these two guys turned into a small gang. One of the skirmishes ended in a fight with a stabbing. As a result, young Rudinshtein ended up in a children's colony.
Fathers and Sons
After some time in the correctional facility, Mark's father helped him get an early release. As Rudinshtein himself recalls, his parent could have done this before, but did not, considering the punishment an excellent way of education. The son of this, however, did not appreciate and immediately after his release he left his native Odessa to Nikolaev.
In general, it is worth noting that Mark’s relationship with the parent was ambiguous. In his memoirs, Mark often said not too pleasant things about his father. However, as time has shown, Rudinstein Jr. rarely spares anyone in a conversation.
Grigorievich, Izrailevich or Kasrylyevich
Usually they call Rudinshtein Mark Grigoryevich, but a completely different middle name is written in the producer’s passport - Izrailevich. It was such an openly Jewish name that his father bore. And until the age of 21, Mark did not hide the name of his father. However, everything changed in 1967, when there was a military conflict between Israel and Syria, which radically changed the attitude of the Soviet Union towards the Jewish state. Rudinshtein Mark, whose real name and patronymic is Mark Izrailevich, at that time just served in the army. One can imagine how hard he had to patronymic, which suddenly became synonymous with the enemy. Therefore, he began to be called Grigoryevich, using the name of his grandfather. Gradually, his real middle name was forgotten, although in the passport Mark Rudinstein did not begin to change his real middle name.
The funny thing is that in a good way Rudinstein should have been called Konstantinovich or, in the Jewish version, Kasrylyevich. That is what his father was called at birth. However, in the wake of the enthusiasm associated with the creation of the State of Israel, Rudinstein Sr. changed his name.
Failed shipbuilder and perpetual student
After moving to Nikolaev at the age of 15, Mark got a job at a shipyard. However, he did not work there for a long time - he realized in time that the working specialty was not his calling. Therefore, soon after the army, he moved to Moscow, where he entered GITIS.
Unfortunately, they did not give him a chance to graduate from a theater university - again, Jewish roots prevented him. I had to enter the part-time department in Shchukinsky. After graduating from it, Rudinstein began organizing concerts of Soviet pop stars, and also became the director of the vocal-instrumental ensemble "Hello, song!".

Work at Rosconcert, on the one hand, has largely revealed the talents of Rudinshtein as an intelligent event organizer. On the other hand, she brought him to a prison cell.
In the early 80s, another witch hunt began - for any attempt at independent economic activity, a considerable term could be obtained. And Rudinstein, as they say, came under the distribution. He was arrested for embezzlement of state property. The situation was frankly absurd - everyone perfectly understood that the Rosconcert leadership had to spend money on transporting equipment and organizing entertainment events, and often a lot was done around official routes. But they decided to find the guilty anyway.
Rudinshtein was given 6 years, however, he spent about a year in prison - after a review of the case he was acquitted. However, the memories of the days spent in custody became one of the most unpleasant in his life.
Worst day ever
Even the days spent behind bars, Rudinstein recalls with his inherent sense of humor. Although the fun in those days was not enough. Mark had to spend months in a crowded cell, where there were not only people convicted under the “economic” clause, but also real criminals. In many ways, his acquaintance with pop stars, about whom he could tell interesting stories, helped him.
But the worst thing for Rudinshtein was the transfer to the detention center, where his only cell neighbor was the former Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan. According to the memoirs of Mark himself, the New Year's Eve of 1987 became the most terrible day in his life, when inmates broadcast radio from Red Square all night, where people had fun.
Rudinstein almost broke, lowered his hands. He suffered a heart attack. And only the help of friends, including Kobzon, forced him to submit a petition for review of the case. For the lack of evidence, Rudinshtein was acquitted.
Organizational skills

Creator of the Kinotavr

In 1990, Mark, on the basis of the Leisure Center "Moscow Region" led by him, organized a festival of domestic cinema, where tapes were presented on which there was no buyer. He won the movie screening, by the way, “Die, die, Sunday,” who later successfully performed in Cannes.
Well, the Moscow Region festival itself became a prototype for a larger and more famous film forum. In 1991, in Sochi, thanks to the efforts of Rudinshtein, the first Kinotavr was held. This festival was remembered not only as a show of good domestic cinema, but also as a party place for many movie stars, both Russian and foreign.
After many years as a producer of Kinotavr, Rudinshtein, tired of hard organizational work, resigned and sold the rights to conduct it.

After graduating from the Shchukin Theater School with a degree in acting, Mark repeatedly starred in films. However, he himself frankly admits that his acting talent is not the greatest, and therefore most of his roles are episodic.
