Pita bread is a frequent guest on our table. With its help, you can easily cook a wide variety of dishes. In addition, pita bread replaces high-calorie bread with many, and just as a separate dish, it also looks good. When you read the composition of the product, you immediately want to make pita bread at home. Yes, of course, it can be done, only with a small caveat: it will still not be real, that is, not “Georgian”, and not “Armenian”. But the thing is that real pita bread is cooked in a special oven, which, unfortunately, a modern oven cannot replace.
If you still want to cook a delicious pita bread at home, then you may well try to do it. Moreover, everything is simple, and it will not take much time for this.
Lavash Recipe N1
Ingredients: 3 cups flour, ¼ cup warm water, 10 g yeast, 1 tsp. sugar, vegetable oil.
Preparation: pour warm water into a small plate, add sugar and yeast. We wait until the yeast comes up. At this time, mix the flour and salt, make a small deepening in the center and gradually pour in the suitable yeast and 3 tbsp. vegetable oil. We mix everything with quick movements until a homogeneous mass is obtained.
We take the dough out of the bowl and spread it on a surface sprinkled with flour. We begin to knead the dough and do it for 10 minutes. Then we transfer the dough (knocked into a ball) back to the bowl (slightly peeled and greased with vegetable oil). We put the bowl in a warm place for a couple of hours, until the dough is doubled.
As soon as you see that the dough is well suited, preheat the oven to 2300C. Crush the dough and divide it into about 15-16 pieces. Sprinkle flour onto the work surface and begin rolling out the dough. You should get a thin layer, about 4 mm thick. As a result, you form rectangles (somewhere 20x8 cm). Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet sprinkled with flour.
As an addition, the dough can be pierced with a fork, sprinkled with water and sprinkled with sesame seeds or poppy seeds (you can use both). Baking time - 3-5 minutes, until our pita becomes golden brown.
Lavash Recipe N2
Ingredients: 200 ml of kefir, 1 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 tsp. soda and salt, 2-2.5 cups flour.
Preparation: mix slightly warmed kefir with salt, add soda (bubbles should appear), vegetable oil and flour. We begin to knead the dough. If there is not enough flour, add more, as the dough should turn out such as the softness of the earlobe. Cover it with a towel and leave it alone for 40-45 minutes.
When time passes, we divide the dough into balls, the sizes of which will depend on the dishes in which you are going to bake pita bread. For example, if you take a pan with a diameter of 20 cm, then the balls should be 8, if the pan is larger, the balls should be made smaller. We roll out each ball in a thin layer (approximately 4 mm). Bake in a dry frying pan, with each side fried for 30-35 seconds. When serving, you can grease with butter or prepare a delicious filling for pita bread.
Since we can bake pita bread ourselves, it does not hurt to get acquainted with how it can be applied. Here are two delicious pita recipes with which you can please not only your family, but also guests.
