Three friends in the service of the king

Athos, Aramis and Porthos appear far from the first pages of the novel. They are introduced to us by those who arrived in Paris to seek service from Mr. de Treville D'Artagnan. They immediately show their main features: Athos - nobility, Aramis - cunning and a tendency to intrigue, Porthos - ingenuousness and vanity. These are the main characters - three musketeers and their characters, which will remain unchanged on the pages of the novel.

Young DʹArtanyan

The young man’s hot temper always makes him take his sword from its scabbard. On the very first pages, he wants to engage in battle with an aristocrat unknown to him: he did not like the old horse of the protagonist.

Once in Paris, DʹArtagnan awkwardly pushed Athos and received an invitation to a duel. Immediately he makes a new oversight: he shows everyone an elegant ladies handkerchief with initials, which belongs to Aramis. A duel with an ignoramus is inevitable. On the stairs, he became entangled in Mr. Porthos’s cloak, and everyone saw that the shiny band that all the musketeers admired was actually made from rough leather inside. Porthos cannot tolerate such an insult and causes the provincial to a duel. This is how DʹArtanyan met and the main characters - three musketeers. The duel actually did not have time to start and grew into a fight with the cardinal's guards. DʹArtagnan showed considerable dexterity and helped every musketeer, which earned them their trust and friendship.

D'Artagnan, thanks to Madame Bonacieux, is given the opportunity to render services to the Queen. Intelligent, fearless and cunning, he managed to get to England when his friends accompanying him were forced to linger in France. D'Artagnan returned to the Louvre at the last moment, and the queen was saved. After this case, he got himself a mortal enemy - Lady Winter. She will revenge mercilessly on him, but she cannot achieve her goal: to destroy D Artanyan. All of its traps, our hero, along with his friends, safely passes and remains alive. As actions develop in the novel, his luck, nobility and luck are exacerbated. He is slightly self-serving, a little boastful and even crafty. But these earthly features give him a lot of charm.

Athos - the perfect nobleman

He is laconic, scrupulous, full of self-esteem and fatal secrets that curious DʹArtanyan wants to know. Behind him is a romantic story. Earlier, the Count de La Fer was married to a beautiful commoner. But she turned out to be a thief who was branded by the executioner. Having managed to survive after the count destroyed her, she married Lord Winter. He died shortly after marriage. Rich, beautiful, quirky, and unusually agile, she pursues D'Artagnan. The main characters, the three musketeers, are just constantly bothering her, and she wants to destroy all four friends with the help of her patron Cardinal Richelieu. Athos, the most tragic of all the characters who drowns his grief in a goblet of wine, unravels the secret of milady. Thanks to his firmness, she will be condemned and executed. So the main characters, three musketeers and their friend, will cope with the evil and duplicity that embodied milady.

Porthos and Aramis

Like Athos, they hide behind their fictitious names their high origin and romantic stories. Aramis (Chevalier d'Herblet), a noble nobleman, is weary of service and dreams of becoming an abbot. Melancholy and sad, meek and courageous, he is feminine beautiful. Aramis is not without heart affection. When for a long time he does not receive news from his girlfriend, Madame de Chevreuse, who was exiled to the far Tour, he increasingly turns to theology. Porthos (Lord du Vallon) - a man-hero, boastful, kind and the most dim-witted of friends. All the main characters of “Three Musketeers” by Dumas are people of honor, nobility and decency.

Another world

Three musketeers confront the world of Cardinal Richelieu, where any crime or infamy can be forgiven if they are done for the good of France. The main characters of Dumas's Three Musketeers are the ominous Cardinal Richelieu, who sets traps for everyone, and his milady minion, who eagerly carries out the most difficult tasks of her patron, arouses a feeling of fear in the powerful cardinal.

Milady and Richelieu
The cardinal is able, and in this he differs from milady, to assess the directness and honor of the musketeers. He regrets that they serve the king, not him. He has both a deep mind and fortitude. They serve the public interest.

After the end of all the adventures, Porthos marries the rich widow of Koknar, Aramis will become an abbot. DʹArtagnan and Athos remain in service. Then the count, having received the inheritance, resigns.

The novel "Three Musketeers" has two sequels. First we see the heroes after 20 years, then after - 10. And these are completely different stories.
