Why, even in warm weather, some people freeze their arms and legs

Probably everyone met such people - even in warm weather you feel the coldness of their fingers when shaking hands. They take off gloves in the spring later than others and love to keep their hands in their pockets. If you do not share the conjugal bed with such a person, you hardly had to feel it, but you can take the word for it - their legs are also almost always cold. And there are a lot of such people who have “forever” hands and feet freezing, they say that almost every third woman has such a problem. Among men, "frozen" is about half as much - also, you see, is not uncommon.

It is easy to imagine how discomfort such people experience. No matter how you dress, no matter how you put on your shoes, and even with a slight frost, after a few minutes of being outdoors, they have a tingling sensation, and soon a aching pain in the fingers and toes. And then there are constant “jokes” from acquaintances who, after a handshake, will not fail to mention “ice”, “frog” or something like that, or even reproaches from sexual partners, whose cold fervor is cooling the love ardor. By the way, in the Middle Ages in England there was even a law according to which the cold limbs of any of the spouses were a good reason for divorce.

So why are your arms and legs freezing? In the cold, the vessels of the extremities are specially compressed so that a greater amount of warming blood is given to vital internal organs. This is a natural thermoregulation common to all people. But some people experience permanent malfunctioning of blood vessels, and they begin to contract for no reason, disrupting the normal supply of blood to various organs, and the hands and feet are freezing first. Such failures are symptoms of a common disease called vegetovascular dystonia. Its exacerbation - Raynaud's disease - is even more unpleasant, because, progressing, causes a loss of skin elasticity and peeling of the fingertips.

Another disease that causes hands and feet to freeze is anemia - a lack of iron in the body, because of which the body loses heat much faster. Sensitivity to cold can also be caused by a lack of vitamins A and E, fats, or a malfunction of the thyroid gland, in which it does not produce enough hormones. All this reduces the amount of energy used to heat the body.

What to do if hands and feet are freezing? First of all, to exclude pathology in the endocrine system by checking the thyroid gland, because in case of violations of its normal functioning, freezing limbs are no longer an inconvenience, but a symptom of a serious disease. It also does not hurt to do tests for iron content to make sure that the problem is not a deficiency of this element. If hemoglobin really turns out to be underestimated, the matter can be corrected by including dried apricots, pomegranate, raisins, oatmeal or buckwheat porridge, beef liver, apples, other fruits and vegetables in the diet.

If everything is in order with the thyroid gland and iron, we can say with a high degree of certainty that the problem lies precisely in the vegetovascular dystonia. The bad news is that the etiology (that is, the cause) of such “abnormal behavior” of blood vessels is unclear, and therefore there is no cure as such. The good news is that both vegetovascular dystonia and Raynaud's syndrome are not dangerous, you just have to adapt to live with it.

If your hands and feet often freeze, you can try to “harden” them a little. A good help in this can be daily contrast baths, a weekly visit to the steam room, followed by immersion in a cold pool, periodic steaming of the legs to redness. Physical activity and sports are useful, but bad habits, on the contrary, are contraindicated, since smoking, like nothing else, causes vasospasms. You should always dress according to the weather, paying particular attention to the limbs. Shoes should not be cramped - on the contrary, it is desirable that you can wear two pairs of socks; instead of gloves, it’s better to buy mittens so that your fingers warm themselves from the palms of your hands. In frosty weather, before going out, it’s good to drink hot chicken stock, but not coffee! And in general, more protein, fatty foods, especially in winter.

And your partner will have to come to terms with such a "flaw" as "ice" in bed. If he loves, it will also help to warm, and if he has an “icy” heart, then this is all the more untreated.
