Plot
New York. Madison Avenue. A successful advertising company is summing up the results of the outgoing working year. Howard Inlet, as the owner of a 60% stake in the agency, thanks all the staff and gives a talk about why advertising is important. In a person’s life there are three components that always make him buy goods: time, love and death. Three years later, Howard is in the same building, but he no longer looks like that cheerful guy from the Christmas party. This is a heartbroken man. Two years ago, his daughter died, and now he occasionally comes to the office to build and break structures of dominoes.
His best friends and co-owners of the agency can no longer stare blankly at his comrade. The company is close to bankruptcy. If you do not bring Howard back to life, then you urgently need to sell the company. But without him, it is impossible to do this, and he refuses to speak with anyone for two years already. Less and less, he appears at work and looks worse every day. Claire, Whit and Simon have no other choice but to admit him insane and sell the company without his consent. They hire a detective named Sally, who will prove the instability of Howard's psyche and provide evidence.
Sally begins to follow the client and discovers that he puts letters in the mailbox every morning. She manages to get envelopes illegally and track their future path. He goes to the doghouse in Brooklyn and sits there alone for a long time. Friends decide to open letters, and it turns out that their friend does not write messages at all to people, but to time, love and death. He blames them for what happened and hates with all his heart. Claire decides to visit Howard at home, but he does not open her door. But the landlord falls upon her like a typhoon. She has to pay for the apartment and find out that all the food she brought to a friend, the landlord safely ate.
Meanwhile, a young girl comes to the agency to try on a role in a commercial. After the casting, Whit goes with her and gets into the theater, where she meets two more actors - Bridzhit and Raffi. A plan is ready in his head - these three need to play Death, Love and Time. Perhaps this is how they can get Howard out of the abyss. Elderly Bridget comes first and reports that she is Death. She received letters and is ready to refute his reproaches. Howard succumbs and begins to go to the group of parents who have lost children. In turn, Love and Time visit him. He tells a woman from a group called Madeline about his visions, but they cannot find a common language, and he escapes.
The provocations of the three actors work, and the detective manages to remove how Howard yells at people. Overcoming the pain, Howard manages to name the daughter and the cause of her death, after which she and Madeline again become a loving couple.
