Ureaplasmas are tiny bacteria that live on the mucous membranes of the urinary tract and genitals. These are opportunistic microorganisms that can provoke a whole range of diseases, but they are also found in absolutely healthy people. For example, statistics indicate the presence of ureaplasma in every third of the born girls. But in infants, boys, this microorganism is very rare.
Ureaplasmosis - what is it? This is a small parasitic organism, which in most cases eventually heals independently in newborns. Especially the percentage of self-healing is large in boys. The final result shows that the disease occurs in schoolgirls who do not live sexually in 6-23% of cases.

How can I get infected?

Ureaplasmosis: consequences
Like any other disease, ureaplasmosis must be diagnosed and treated on time, otherwise the consequences may be irreversible. The danger of this disease lies in the fact that it is almost asymptomatic, but absolutely any area of the genitourinary system can affect. Long-term development of the disease without proper treatment can lead to the following problems in women:
- vaginitis (inflammatory processes of the vagina);
- cervicitis (inflammatory process of the cervical mucosa ) ;
- endometritis (diseases of the uterine mucosa itself);
- adnexitis (inflammation of the appendages and ovaries);
- salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes).
Salpingitis in a neglected form often makes a woman infertile due to the fact that the formation of adhesions begins in the tubes. This disease can also provoke an ectopic pregnancy.
But the most terrible consequences of ureaplasmosis threaten pregnant women. Insidious microorganisms can provoke not only the pathology of pregnancy, but also lead to premature birth. And yet, a mother sick with ureaplasmosis during childbirth will infect the baby.
For men, the effects of infection are not as devastating as for women. However, the symptoms of the disease appear in them late, which allows them to develop diseases such as inflammatory processes of the prostate gland (prostatitis), and a decrease in sperm activity.
