Resident Evil, winning the minds and hearts of millions of gamers in 1996, was an exceptionally innovative product and became the founder of the genre. When the fashion for a new wave of Japanese horror appeared, having prepared fertile ground for film adaptation, eminent filmmakers took up the project. Currently, all fans of the epic know how many parts of the "Resident Evil" are, but not many know that the production began with a lot of problems.
Zombie action
Initially, the famous George Romero was supposed to direct the film , but negotiations with him dragged on, so the producers decided to entrust the film adaptation to Paul Anderson. Using the example of “Mortal Kombat”, a visionary proved to Hollywood the reality of the existence of commercially successful films on games. The director chose recognizable details from the Universe Resident Evil, created the crazy zombie action “Resident Evil” (2002), which was adorned by the beautiful Milla Jovovich.
The team’s efforts were partially justified. Cinema with a budget of 33 million earned only 102 million, which can not be called a huge success. Those who were not closely acquainted with the game were not delighted with the average plot, and fans found an unfavorable difference for Anderson with the original source. The director decided to pay tribute to the action, missing the coveted Survival Horror. Viewers did not appreciate such an experiment, but thought about how many parts of the Resident Evil awaits them in the future.
Sequel
The next film project on Resident Evil was no longer shot by Anderson, who took a cozy producer's chair. Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse was directed by Alexander Witt, known as an outstanding cameraman who showed his talent in Speed and Gladiator. The director, according to critics, created an ordinary science fiction film, losing the atmosphere of horror. A separate semantic load of what is happening appeared in the finale, but it is dual and clearly open to continue. After watching the cycle, the viewer was sure that the matter would not be limited to the “Apocalypse” and the question of how many parts of the film “Resident Evil” would result from remained open.
The third part
Resident Evil 3 (2007) was created under the strict guidance of specializing in mid-budget fiction projects, Russell Malken, who received his share of popularity after the premiere of Highlander and Real McCoy. He managed with a modest budget to create a spectacular and glamorous post-apocalyptic movie. The famously twisted plot and the beautiful Milla Jovovich in pretty sexy outfits guaranteed the picture a good box office. Among the shortcomings of the project, critics again pointed to the lack of a horror atmosphere Survival Horror. For how many parts of the "Resident Evil" after the original suffered from the mistakes of the creators.
To be continued…
While the audience found out how many parts of the Resident Evil exist, Paul Anderson discovers the 3D format and shoots the fourth epic film called Life After Death. Critics have repeatedly blamed the second and third episode for the boring tracing of the original tape, in their opinion, the fourth series turns into a real comedy thrash in 3D. The story is again focused on the personality of the heroine Jovovich, she is joined by the character of Wentworth Miller, who once again escaped from prison. All the main components remain unshakable, the balance of power unchanged. The viewer calculated how many parts of the Resident Evil have already been released, and froze in anticipation of the next chapter.
Fifth episode
The film "Resident Evil: Retribution" (2012), which is the fifth in the epic, was positioned by the creators as a real thriller, favorably distinguished by the epic scale of battles and shootings. As a result, the zombie action movie was remembered for the fact that the heroes blew up Red Square and let go of the stingy jokes about Moscow. The picture was practically divided into sublevels, at the end of which it was traditionally necessary to defeat the boss. Cinema experts evaluated the author’s efforts with restraint, pointing out that the crisis of ideas invariably leads to the “resurrection” of old heroes, and the mechanicality of what is happening in the film causes bewilderment and makes you sad. How many parts of Resident Evil were originally planned as Survival Horror, and as a result became only a fetish video art? Unfortunately, the rating of the project steadily declined with each new episode.
Fantastic cycle finale
“Resident Evil: The Last Chapter” is a good culmination of the epic, the impression of which is slightly spoiled by ultra-fast installation. Throughout all five parts, the creators and ideological mastermind Paul Anderson showed the viewer the features of the confrontation between the protagonists and the ominous Umbrella Corporation. Real fans, counting how many parts of Resident Evil were filmed, counted on an unpredictable final twist in the last episode. And the authors lived up to their expectation. In the “Last Chapter” there is not one of the supporting heroes of the epic, the narration is focused on Umbrella and Alice. Anderson, returning to the post of director, answers many questions that remain open throughout all five parts and puts a bullet in the eye. The main drawback of the project was called steep and too fast installation, and the main advantage was the charisma of Ian Glen and Milla Jovovich.
