The drug "Levomycetin": indications for use and contraindications

Modern man is used to swallowing antibiotics for every necessary and unnecessary case. Therefore, if we happen to get acute poisoning, everyone around unanimously advises the medicine "Levomycetin". But all drugs must be taken carefully, and antibiotics - especially carefully. And if many are advised to take the drug "Levomycetin" for diarrhea, take the time to follow these tips. Better read the instructions.

The antibiotic "Levomycetin" is available in the form of tablets, including coated and prolonged action, aerosol and solution for external use, capsules, powder for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular and intravenous injection, in the form of eye drops and eye ointment. This drug can have many different names: for example, the preparations "Chloramphenicol", "Typhomycetin", "Paraxin", and others, but laevomycetinum, chloramphenicol always acts as the treating substance . Indications for use of this drug are strictly limited, and it is worth taking this remedy only after consulting a doctor.

Most often, the medicine β€œLevomycetin” is used as a fixing agent, but this does not mean that it should be taken in case of poisoning, when there is nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. This drug is a very powerful broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is prescribed, like all antibiotics, to destroy various pathogenic microorganisms - bacteria, cocci, spirochetes, and some large viruses.

That is why the drug "Levomycetin" should not be prescribed for conventional food poisoning: indications for use are strictly limited to cases of damage to the body by pathogenic bacteria. It is mainly prescribed for infectious and inflammatory diseases such as paratyphoid fever, typhoid fever, rash and typhus, dysentery, tularemia, brucellosis, whooping cough, sepsis, and also for pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, less often with cystitis. And with food poisoning take sorbents (the same coal) or saline solutions. The antibiotic Levomycetin does not eliminate the poison from the body, and with food poisoning it can only aggravate the situation by β€œeating” all intestinal bacteria and provoking intestinal dysbiosis.

But in case of very serious infectious diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, in those cases where streptomycin, sulfanilamide, and penicillin are also passed, chloramphenicol effectively helps. Indications for the use of this antibiotic indicate that it actively destroys the protein synthesis of pathogens, acting bacteriostatically. It is absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, and after 2-3 hours after taking the drug, its maximum concentration in the blood is achieved.

Since levomycetin is concentrated in the tissues of the kidneys, liver and brain, and also passes into breast milk, there are certain contraindications to its adoption. These are various diseases of the kidneys and liver, periods of pregnancy and lactation, impaired blood formation, deficiency of the glucose enzyme, individual intolerance to chloramphenicol, and some skin diseases. The drug should not be taken with alcohol - this develops a disulfiram reaction.

But there are a number of skin diseases in which doctors and cosmetologists prescribe the antibiotic Levomycetin. Indications for use indicate that the drug is effective in inflammatory processes of the skin, acne and acne (oily seborrhea and teenage acne). It is prescribed in cases of infected, purulent wounds and burns, trophic ulcers and pressure sores. Especially for external use, the drug is produced in the form of alcohol (with salicylic acid and ethyl alcohol), aerosol, ointments, which are prescribed for otitis media.

The drug can also be produced in the form of powder for injection or a solution that is widely used in folk medicine as a remedy for youthful acne. A solution of acne chloramphenicol can be prepared independently if desired: 2 crushed Trichopol tablets should be added to chloramphenicol alcohol . Apply with a cotton swab to acne.
