The character that Fry embodied on the screen turned out to be organic and consistent with the description of Arthur Conan Doyle.

The first joint affair of the brothers

It was like this: a Greek translator turned to the brother of a famous detective. He knew everything: the name of his brother Sherlock Holmes, was aware of his reputation. The visitor told a sad story about the abduction of a person and that they were starving him, demanding to sign documents on the transfer of property to scammers. In addition, they had his sister in captivity. The Greek translator expected a terrible end to this story. Holmes decided to take urgent measures and to connect the police to free the unfortunate. But first, he decided to call home and arm himself. What was the amazement of both Watson and Holmes when they saw that Mycroft Holmes was waiting for them, who, forgetting his inertia, decided to join them. In this story, the qualities of a brother that are unexpected for Holmes are manifested - courage and a desire to do justice, and not be an outside observer.

The unfortunate, of course, were saved, but the villains managed to escape from the country, taking the captive with them. However, after some time, the detective learned from Hungarian news that two Englishmen killed each other in a fight. Nothing was reported about the girl, but Holmes was convinced that it was she who avenged her brother’s death. In the next four stories, we learn that Sherlock Holmes’s brother knows how to transform so that even Watson doesn’t recognize him. Mention of a brother can be found in another story. It was Mycroft Holmes who would financially support the detective for three years, when the thugs of Professor Moriarty were chasing him .

Missing Drawings

Mycroft Holmes will take an active part in this story. He is the brain of the British government, his most perfect tool, knowing absolutely everything and able to establish the right relationships between disparate facts from a wide variety of fields. While two friends are pondering what caused Mycroft to pack up and visit them, Jupiter himself appears, as Holmes called him. A huge man, possessing not only physical, but also tangible intellectual power, was thrilled. With the death of the clerk, the drawings of a military submarine disappeared. In order for international conflict not to happen, they should be found as quickly and completely silently as possible. Only two brothers, using all their remarkable abilities to effectively solve problems, were able to figure out in the shortest possible time in this complicated story. Sherlock Holmes was summoned to Buckingham Palace and awarded a tie pin with a magnificent emerald.

Why are we still interested in Conan Doyle's stories?

The deductive method, built on observation and the ability to bring together the disparate details of an intellectual “puzzle”, attracts the reader more than bloodshed and chilling details of atrocious crimes. Five series of stories and four novels (“Etude in Scarlet”, “Sign of Four”, “Dog of the Baskervilles”, “Valley of Horror”) are the scene on which Arthur Conan Doyle unfolds the action. Books about Sherlock Holmes allow you to enjoy the fascinating game of the mind of the main character. He always finds a non-trivial solution. A similar view of the problem from an unexpected angle is the reason for the continuing interest in the detective works of the writer. In his best stories and novels, there are always witty and simple solutions to the most complex and sinister puzzles.
