Diclofenac (eye drops)

Diclofenac (eye drops) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This drug is a prescription. The active substance in it is diclofenac sodium, and as auxiliary substances disodium edetate, propylene glycol, sodium chloride, sodium dodecahydrate of hydrogen phosphate, sodium hydroxide solution, dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and water for injection.

"Diclofenac" (eye drops) have an analgesic effect. Their use allows you to relieve swelling and pain that occur in the presence of inflammation. They also block the development of myosis.

Diclofenac drops quite quickly and well penetrate all tissues of the eye, with the exception of the lens. The highest concentration of this agent is achieved after thirty to forty minutes after its installation. In therapeutically significant concentrations, the drug does not penetrate into the systemic circulation.

Diclofenac (eye drops): indications for use

The specified drug must be taken in the following cases:

- with inhibition of myosis during cataract surgery;

- for prophylaxis, as well as, if necessary, treatment of inflammation that may occur on the eyeball after operations on it;

- to prevent cystic edema of the macula that occurs after cataract surgery;

- if necessary, the treatment of non-infectious conjunctivitis;

- for preventive therapy and treatment of post-traumatic inflammation as part of antibiotic therapy.

The main contraindications for use

It is not recommended to use "Diclofenac" (eye drops) in the presence of hematopoiesis of unknown origin, with exacerbation of erosive-ulcerative processes in the digestive tract and with intolerance to the components that make up its composition.

Caution is necessary to use this drug for people with bronchial asthma, which is caused by the use of acetylsalicylic acid, hemophilia, a tendency to bleeding, epithelial herpetic keratitis, as well as elderly people.

Up to 18 years, as well as pregnant women or mothers who are breastfeeding, this tool can be used only in the most urgent cases.

Diclofenac (eye drops): instructions

In order to inhibit intraoperative miosis, this drug must be instilled in the conjunctival sac for two hours before the operation.

If this remedy is used as a prophylaxis of cystic edema of the macula, then one drop should be instilled up to three times a day, and the treatment period is from two to three weeks.

As a treatment, depending on the severity of the disease, one drop of the drug is instilled up to four times a day, the duration is 1-2 weeks.

Possible side effects

After the use of Diclofenac (eye drops), burning in the eye, clouding of the cornea, blurred visual perception, itching in the eyes, hyperemia, fever, angioedema, photosensitivity, chills, nausea, skin rash, erythema multiforme and exudative erythema may occur.

It is allowed to use this medication together with other drops for the eyes, as well as with those drugs that include glucocorticosteroids. The only condition is that at least 5 minutes should elapse between their administration. This is done so that the injected agent does not wash the previous one.

In the presence of contact lenses at the time of administration of the drug, they should be removed and worn no earlier than half an hour after the use of the drug.

If there is a blur in visual perception, it is better to refrain from driving and exercising, where increased attention and reaction are needed.
