Paraproctitis (symptoms and treatment are fundamentally different from other diseases of the rectum) is an inflammation of the rectum that occurs due to the accumulation of a large number of bacteria and microbes that settle on its walls. As a rule, treatment is only surgical, as it threatens with serious consequences. However, under the supervision of a doctor and according to his recommendations, paraproctitis can be treated without surgery. When the first symptoms appear (pain in the anus, complicated bowel movements and urination, fever, itching), it is recommended to contact the institute of proctology.
When you can do without surgery
Doctors say that in some cases, you can do without surgery. In particular, this applies exclusively to the initial stages of the disease. It is also worth remembering that drug treatment is possible in the acute form, but in chronic cases only surgery is indicated. And for this, it is recommended to contact the institute of proctology.
Treatment of paraproctitis without surgery cannot take place without strict adherence to the diet. This is necessary due to the fact that with this disease in the anus, scars can form, as well as various kinds of deformities and pathologies. This leads to a difficult process of defecation, and this can be solved precisely by correcting the diet.
It is possible to treat paraproctitis without surgery only if there is no purulent process. In this case, antibiotics, physiotherapeutic methods and traditional medicine are used. It is also recommended to do this only during the period of remission, when the fistulous passages are closed, or the fistula has already been removed.
In all other situations, surgery is unlikely to be possible. It is impossible to remove pus by therapeutic methods or eliminate fistula.
Antibiotic therapy
This method of treatment involves the use of antibiotics, since the disease is provoked by various bacteria and microbes. They are prescribed when the general condition of the patient is known, and it does not require immediate surgical intervention, as well as with an increase in temperature. Most commonly used:
- Amikacin.
- "Metronidazole".
- Gentamicin.
In addition to the main action, these drugs contribute to:
- elimination of the pathological process of the rectum;
- prevention of fistula formation;
- decrease in elevated body temperature.
Antibiotics are used in the form of tablets or injections.
Using candles
This form of medicine is used to heal microcracks and wounds, as well as an antibiotic, whose action is directed directly to the focus of inflammation. They are prescribed in the case when the patient undergoes rehabilitation after the operation, that is, when the fistula (paraproctitis is characterized by this) is opened.
Also, due to local exposure to the active components, the symptoms of paraproctitis can be eliminated as quickly as possible. Especially if the operation cannot be carried out according to certain indications.
It is candles that are used if paraproctitis is found in children (however, only children under one year of age) who suffer from a chronic form of this disease. In addition, it is recommended to use this form of medication in the presence of concomitant diseases, such as hemorrhoids, as well as in the presence of numerous cracks and damage to the anus.
Ichthyol ointment
This tool helps to eliminate the existing tension in the tissues, which is certainly present if purulent paraproctitis is diagnosed. In addition, ichthyol ointment can act as an anesthetic. Numerous reviews allow us to conclude that with prolonged use of this drug, surgery may not be necessary.
Healing baths
It is unlikely to ignore this method of conservative treatment. There are several ways to use the baths. The first of these is the use of potassium permanganate. This substance has an antibacterial and healing effect. The duration of the procedure is no more than two minutes. After it, you can use special rectal suppositories.
Salt bath (1 tbsp of salt and soda per 5 l of water) also has a beneficial effect on the healing process. You need to do it once a day for 15 minutes. For a positive effect, you need to carry out a minimum of 15 procedures.
You can add infusions of medicinal herbs, such as chamomile, calendula or sage, to water for baths (pour 50 g of plants into 0.5 l of boiling water and boil for about a quarter of an hour).
Elimination of pain by folk remedies
If pain is one of the symptoms of paraproctitis, then a solution of novocaine (about one or two ampoules, depending on the severity of the symptom) or antiseptic drugs can be added to the bathtubs. The latter are able to prevent the appearance of pus and the growth of bacteria. Antiseptic drugs can also be injected into the anus using a catheter. The most commonly used are Furacilin, Chlorhexidine, and Dekasan. A single dose should not exceed 10 ml.
There are other recipes for taking therapeutic baths:
- dissolve 10 tablets of mummy in a glass of warm water, then strain and pour into 5 l of prepared bath water;
- Mix 70 g of wood ash with 7 l of water, after which the container is put on fire and boiled for 30 minutes, filtered and allowed to cool to a comfortable temperature (the duration of the procedure is about 25 minutes);
- a mixture of milk and garlic: boil 2 liters of milk, add 4 cloves of garlic, a large onion and slightly warm, then take a bath (it should be hot, and it is better to wrap the body with a warm blanket) until the milk has cooled down completely.
Microclysters
As a rule, subcutaneous paraproctitis is treated by using microclysters with Collargol (an antiseptic based on silver) or sea buckthorn oil. They are able to fight inflammation, activate the healing process, and also relieve pain. In order to avoid unpleasant consequences, it is recommended to follow all the rules of microclysters:
- Before the procedure, you need to lie on your left side, after which bend your legs and pull them to your stomach;
- gently push the buttocks;
- the syringe should be carefully prepared before this: lubricate the tip with Vaseline or cream, then enter into the anus by 5-10 cm (all actions must be careful so as not to damage the area of ββthe anus);
- enter the contents of the syringe into the rectum;
- buttocks squeeze;
- lie in this position a little.
Remember safety rules and use pears only with a rubber tip, which must be lubricated. Also, to enhance the effect of therapeutic microclysters, it is recommended to make an ordinary enema to clear the intestines of feces and increase the absorption of the drug. In a liquid for a regular enema, you can add infusions of medicinal herbs, such as calendula, or honey.
How to prepare an enema
Recipes for therapeutic microclysters:
- 1 dessert spoon of sage, yarrow, chamomile, pour 200 g of boiling water, leave for 20 minutes;
- squeeze the juice from the potatoes, after rubbing it (single dose - 1 tbsp. l., course of treatment - 10 days);
- 20 g of fresh marigold flowers pour 200 ml of boiling water and insist for at least two hours.
Microclysters are carried out in a two-week course.
Alternative methods of treatment
Some traditional medicine is required to be taken orally. Most of them are taken instead of regular tea, 150-200 ml before each meal:
- 100 g of marshmallow and plantain, 75 g of yarrow mix, then 3 tbsp. l pour 700 ml of boiling water into the mixture and leave overnight, strain and drink at least 4 times a day;
- mix 1 part of basil, St. John's wort, sophora, celandine and 2 parts of birch leaves (1 part corresponds to a glass of 50 ml), pour 1.2 liters of boiling water and boil a little, then leave for an hour and strain (take 1 tbsp between meals) . l.);
- squeeze the juice from the mountain ash, half a glass divided into three doses and drink throughout the day (the remaining meal can be used for compresses);
- stone oil (3 g) pour 3 liters of boiled water, then insist for about three days, strain and take 200 ml after meals throughout the day (if there is no negative reaction, the dose can be increased to three glasses a day before meals).
The precipitate obtained as a result of the preparation of the last agent can also be used as lotions, compresses if paraproctitis is diagnosed (the reasons may be non-observance of intimate hygiene).
Well-established tampons with badger fat. They must be entered at night directly into the anus, and removed in the morning.
Dietary rules
As mentioned earlier, after the opening of paraproctitis was performed, it is necessary to strictly observe a special diet, which will prevent the appearance of microcracks and other pathologies. Also, it must be observed by those who suffer from constant relapses, hemorrhoids and constipation. Here are some recommendations from doctors to help ease stool:
- before eating, you can drink freshly prepared carrot juice (200-250 g divided for the whole day), if paraproctitis is accompanied by hemorrhoids, it is recommended to steam carrot tops and drink this liquid like tea;
- a good laxative is spinach and carrot juice (3:10), drink at least two glasses throughout the day;
- it is recommended to eat at least 100 g of boiled red beets daily;
- pickled cabbage brine will help if there are complications such as bleeding, hemorrhoids and constipation (drink 1 glass three times a day);
- as a laxative, you can use infusion of prunes (pour prunes overnight with boiling water), as well as the berries themselves;
- water from soaked lingonberries, which you need to drink on an empty stomach, copes with constipation.
Treatment of paraproctitis without surgery requires the exclusion from the diet of all products that can cause constipation, irritate the rectal mucosa (fatty, fried, spicy dishes).
Preventive measures
Paraproctitis (symptoms and treatment are very specific) is easier to prevent than to cure. First of all, it is necessary to adjust the lifestyle in such a way as to remove all the causes that can lead to constipation. Diseases such as hemorrhoids, diabetes mellitus require immediate treatment. It is worth remembering that, despite the fact that hemorrhoids is a rather intimate disease, you should not be shy to go to the doctor with this problem, because cracks can cause the spread of infection, which subsequently leads to inflammation of the rectum. As for diabetes, this disease can become a provoking factor to the formation of suppuration and the spread of infection throughout the body.
Treatment should be carried out and any other infectious diseases. This is due to the fact that it is sometimes very difficult to predict the behavior of an infection, which means that it is also possible to predict possible complications. And do not forget that paraproctitis in children is also diagnosed.
You need to get rid of excess weight. A good prevention will be diet correction, exercise, strengthening immunity (you can take vitamins and special immunomodulating drugs). In no case should supercooling be allowed, including general.
But the main preventive measure remains the observance of intimate hygiene. Rinse the anus every day, as well as after each act of bowel movement.
Remember that treatment will be less long and difficult if the disease is detected in the early stages. Only at the beginning of development can the problem be solved without surgery, by taking antibiotics, following a diet, and playing sports.
