No one An interstate reception or an expensive banquet can not do without world-famous champagne - Taittinger. This is the only brand in Champagne that is privately owned and continues to maintain a high level of quality sparkling wine, set almost a hundred years ago.

History of Taittinger Champagne House

Taittinger Champagne Wines Trading House is one of the oldest in Champagne. The history of its origin dates back to 1734 and is associated with another name "Fourneaux" by the name of its founder Jacques Forno.

Almost two hundred years later, in 1932, another Frenchman, Pierre Tettenzhe, bought the winery. Since then, a new era begins in the history of champagne wines - the Taittinger brand appears. Starting this year, the company begins to actively grow and develop.

In 1952, the first bottle of sparkling wine was released , which received worldwide recognition, both among connoisseurs of criticism and among lovers of drinks of the Taittinger trademark - Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs champagne. The first part of the name is literally translated as “Count of Champagne” and indicates the belonging of King Navarre Thibault IV to the origin of winemaking in the region.

According to legend, in the 13th century he brought from the Crusade a vine of the Chardonnay variety, which laid the foundation for modern champagne. In gratitude to this, today on all bottles of the Tettenzhe trademark there is a figure of a troubadour knight. The very same Taittinger champagne in its composition has a dominant note of Chardonnay.

Since the foundation of the trading house, all these years he remained in family ownership. Only in 2005, the Tettenge brand was acquired by an American company. But a year later, the founder’s grandson returned the company to private ownership, and continued the work begun by his grandfather.

Vineyards and Wine Production

Almost 300 hectares of land in Champagne belongs to the Tettenzhe champagne house. Half of them are Pinot Noir vineyards, a third of the area is Chardonnay, the rest is Pinot Minier. All grapes harvested go to the production of their own champagne.

But, unfortunately, the harvested crop cannot cover all the needs of the company. Every year, the trading house produces up to five million bottles a year. This is a lot, so the company additionally purchases grapes from small producers.
