'Amoxiclav': analogues, indications, contraindications

Among the broad-spectrum antibiotics , Amoxiclav occupies a special place. This combination preparation consists of the antibiotic Amoxicillin, which is combined with clavulanic acid in the preparation , which also has activity against bacteria. In turn, Amoxicillin is a semi - synthetic penicillin. The interaction of these substances does not allow the enzymatic degradation of amoxicillin.

Such a composition makes Amoxiclav so effective and fast that it can be prescribed to patients until the causative agent of the disease is clarified and pharmacokinetics are studied.

Amoxiclav, analogues of this drug (Augmentin, Ranklav, Liklav, Panklav, Rapiklav, Flemoklav solutab, Ecoclave and others) are most often used to treat serious infectious diseases affecting organs respiratory, genitourinary system, biliary tract, pelvic organs. The drug copes with ENT infections, tonsillitis, prostatitis and gonorrhea. "Amoxiclav", its analogues help fight infections that occur in bones, skin, soft tissues. With their help, you can treat sepsis or endocarditis. The drug can be prescribed to cancer patients as one of the components of chemotherapy.

Usually, up to 14 years of age, the drug "Amoxiclav", its analogues are taken in the form of a suspension. After this age, doctors prescribe pills. Usually prescribed tablets three times a day. The doctor selects the dose based on the severity of the disease, weight and age of the patient.

The drug can be administered intravenously at regular intervals: acting directly in the blood, it acts faster than when taken orally.

Since Amoxiclav, its analogues are expensive, questions often arise: “How do the analogues differ? Which ones to prefer? Is drug replacement possible? "Augmentin" or "Amoxiclav" to choose?

The fact is that almost all Amoxiclav analogues are identical in composition. The active substance in them are Amoxicillin and Clavuanic acid. They are active against aerobic gram-positive bacteria. The drugs usually differ only in the manufacturer and price. So "Amoksiklav" is made in Slovenia. Its price varies from 70 rubles (5 tablets of 0.6 mg) to 400 rubles (14 tablets of 1000 mg).

Augmentin is produced in the UK, Ranklav - in India, Sumamed - in Croatia, Ecoclave - in Russia. The price of these drugs is in the range of 130 - 1000 rubles, depending on the dosage, the number of tablets in the package and the region in which the medicine is sold.

Therefore, it is difficult to answer the question of which Amoxiclav or Sumamed is better. This can only be done by a medical practitioner who is familiar with the effects of antibiotics. In a pharmacy, sales of analogues are usually allowed. Nevertheless, before buying a non-prescribed, but a similar drug, it is better to consult a specialist.

It brings not only the composition of these drugs, but also the side effect that antibiotics can cause.

"Amoxiclav", analogues of this drug can provoke vomiting, nausea, impaired renal and hepatic function. Often there are allergic reactions: urticaria, anaphylactic shock, edema. Sometimes taking an antibiotic can cause colitis or hepatitis.

This once again warns how dangerous self-medication is with such drugs. Therefore, despite the fact that Amoxiclav, its analogues, are sold without a prescription today, they can be taken only on the recommendation of a doctor.

It is not possible for everyone to take broad-spectrum antibiotics. They are not recommended.

  • Individuals with individual intolerance
  • Patient mononucleosis
  • Pregnant and lactating
  • Patients with gastrointestinal disorders
  • Patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency

With the wrong dosage of antibiotics, an overdose can occur. Usually it is expressed in the appearance of diarrhea, vomiting, urticaria. In case of overdose, the best way to relieve intoxication is hemodialysis.
