Neurodermatitis: symptoms and treatment

Neurodermatitis is a fairly common disease that manifests itself on the skin. Recent studies show a neurological component in the etiology of neurodermatitis. It was revealed that skin rashes appear with negative emotions, stress, and nervous overstrain. Neurodermatitis is a response of the skin to the inability of the body to adapt to new changes caused by stress. As a rule, neurodermatitis develops from childhood allergic reactions. It is important for parents to monitor the process if the baby has an allergy (especially exudative forms of diathesis) so that neurodermatitis does not develop against its background. The disease can also develop due to an allergy to drugs, food, household chemicals, especially if the child is prone to urticaria, bronchial asthma.

If neurodermatitis (symptoms) is diagnosed , treatment takes a long time to get a positive result. Sometimes at puberty, the disease goes into remission, but not all.

Hereditary factors play a significant role - if the mother was ill with neurodermatitis, the child almost always has one or another allergic predisposition.

Neurodermatitis, the symptoms of which are clear and simple for any dermatologist, does not cause particular difficulties in diagnosis. There are two types of atopic dermatitis - diffuse and limited. Signs of neurodermatitis by a limited type are most often found among adults. The skin is affected in certain areas - in the elbow and popliteal folds, on the forearm, on the inner surface of the thigh, on the wrists, neck, legs, scrotum. The affected skin area is conditionally divided into such parts - peripheral (with a change in skin color), middle (with the formation of papules) and infiltrative (with elements of skin larchization). Limited neurodermatitis does not spread very much on the skin - as a rule, a pair of sections appear that are symmetrical to each other. The area of skin with limited neurodermatitis does not get wet.

Diffuse neurodermatitis, the symptoms of which are manifested most often in children, are somewhat more difficult in the clinic. It is almost impossible to isolate the foci - the process spreads throughout the body, then fading, then inflaming in certain places. Most often the face suffers - the area around the eyes and mouth. Further, neurodermatitis captures the neck, elbow bends and popliteal. If for a long time the same place suffered from neurodermatitis, then even in the remission stage the skin remains brown in color, scars are visible on it, like stretch marks. If the disease worsens, the children feel an intolerable itch and comb the affected areas to severe wounds. Wool clothing provokes itching, which is not recommended for patients with neurodermatitis. Most often, exacerbations occur in the spring-autumn period, but summer and winter are relatively calm. True, in the summer it is important to ensure that there is no prickly heat, which can provoke neurodermatitis.

Neurodermatitis, whose symptoms are detected in the early stages, is best treated with well-chosen drugs. It is important that the treatment is carried out by two specialists - an allergist and a pediatrician. At the exacerbation stage, it is necessary to exclude allergen products: seafood, sweets, etc. Of great importance is the attitude of others to the patient's disease. You should not focus on this, it is better to distract, not to create conflict situations. If the child has neurodermatitis, the symptoms of the disease are best masked so that others do not injure him with their questions - many children form a neurosis on this basis and the disease only worsens. Of the drugs prescribed antihistamines, corticosteroids, vitamins. Physiotherapy is widely used.
