The drug "Buscopan" has an antispasmodic effect aimed at the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, urogenital and biliary systems. The drug also lowers the secretion of digestive glands.

The drug is prescribed for spastic conditions of the biliary tract, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary tract (cholecystitis, renal, intestinal colic, pylorospasm and others). The medication is indicated (as a component of complex therapy) for peptic ulcer in the duodenum and stomach in the acute stage. The drug is also used for algodismenorrhea, spastic dyskinesia in the biliary tract.

The drug is prescribed to patients over six years of age three times a day, one or two tablets inside or rectally suppositories (suppositories). The duration of the therapeutic course is determined individually by the specialist.

Tablets should be washed down with water in sufficient quantities. Candles are inserted into the anus forward with a pointed end.

Undesirable manifestations when using the drug are associated with its anticholinergic effect. Patients may experience dry mouth and skin, drowsiness, palpitations, and probably difficulty urinating. Allergic reactions in the form of a skin rash, shortness of breath (in rare cases) are possible.

Contraindications to taking the drug "Buscopan" instruction include pulmonary edema, angle-closure glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, severe atherosclerosis in the vessels of the brain, megacolon (malformation of the colon), as well as hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The drug is prescribed with caution in patients with prostate adenoma, with narrowing (stenosis) of the pylorus, obstruction of the intestines of a mechanical nature, tachysystole with flickering in the atria.

The advisability of prescribing the drug "Buscopan" during pregnancy and lactation is determined by the doctor. Currently, there is no evidence of a negative or safe effect of the drug on the fetus or breast-fed newborn.

Cases of overdose of tablets in clinical practice are not described. Presumptive symptoms of the condition are manifested in the form of dry mouth, tachycardia, urinary retention, redness of the skin, transient visual impairment, inhibition of gastrointestinal motility. As first aid, gastric lavage with activated charcoal is used.

The drug "Buscopan" enhances tachycardia caused by beta-adrenergic agonists. The medication is able to enhance the anticholinergic effect of antihistamine drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, amantadine, quinidine, and disopyramide.

The simultaneous use of dopamine antagonists and the drug "Buscopan" weakens the effect of both drugs on the digestive tract.

The drug in tablet form and in the form of suppositories (rectal) is recommended to be stored at a temperature of no more than twenty-five degrees in a place inaccessible to children. The shelf life of the medication is five years, after which the drug should not be used.

On the use of the drug "Buscopan" in gynecology, the reviews of experts are more positive. So, according to the results of clinical studies, the medication in suppressing muscle contractions provoked by acetylcholine was forty-four times more effective than bioequivalent dosages of the antispasmodic Drotaverina. These and other research results make it possible to classify Buscopan as an effective antispasmodic for local effects, and also recommend its use as part of complex therapy for patients with symptoms of discomfort and spastic pain.
