Mocha: recipe, necessary ingredients, tips and tricks

Mocha, also called mochaccino, is a chocolate version of a hot drink. Its name comes from the city of Mokka in Yemen, which was one of the centers of the early coffee trade. As with latte, the mocha recipe is based on espresso and hot milk, but differs by the addition of chocolate, usually in the form of sweet cocoa powder (although many varieties use chocolate syrup). Mocha may also contain dark or milk chocolate.

Characteristics and types

Hot chocolate with the addition of espresso may also be referred to by the same name. Like cappuccino, mocha usually contains a characteristic milk froth on top, but sometimes it is served with whipped cream. The drink is usually decorated with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder. In addition, marshmallows (marshmallows) can also be added on top for added flavor and decoration.

Another variant of the drink is white mocha, the recipe of which involves the addition of white chocolate instead of dark and milk. There are also versions of this coffee in which two syrups are mixed. This mix is known by several names, including black and white or marble mocha, as well as β€œmosaic” or β€œzebra”.

The second common drink option is Moccaccino, which is a double espresso with the addition of a double amount of milk and cocoa powder (or chocolate milk). Both mocha and mocha can contain chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and extra toppings like cinnamon, nutmeg, or chocolate drops.

The third option for a mocha recipe is to use a coffee base instead of espresso. In this case, the basis of the drink will be coffee, boiled milk and added chocolate. This is essentially a cup of coffee mixed with hot chocolate. The caffeine content in this embodiment will then be equivalent to the amount of coffee added.

The recipe for mocha in the coffee machine is as follows:

  1. First of all, measure the amount of milk and chocolate. You will need approximately 3 tablespoons of sweetened cocoa powder or 2 tablespoons of syrup to make 236 ml of the finished drink.
  2. You can put chocolate in a mug where you will serve mocha, or put it in a container of hot milk. Measure out the right amount of milk.
  3. You can also put chocolate in a small container of the coffee machine. Thus, you pour boiling coffee directly into the chocolate, which will help it dissolve.
  4. Make espresso. To make double coffee, place 15 grams of powder in a clean portfolio. Level it so that it is smoothly distributed on the base. This will ensure uniform flow of water through it. Close the coffee machine and place a small metal jug under it. It will take about 20-25 seconds to cook.
  5. Then boil the milk. Turn this mode on in the coffee machine a few seconds earlier before you start the cooking process. Then place the milk and heat it several times to make foam. It should reach from 60 to 71 Β° C.
  6. Mix espresso and milk. If you mixed it with chocolate, you just need to pour hot chocolate into the coffee. If you put the chocolate in a mug separately, you will need to mix it with espresso to dissolve. Then slowly pour the hot milk into the drink.

How to decorate a drink?

You can mix the mix thoroughly or practice creating a sophisticated design. To draw on the surface, place the espresso in a mug and gently pour hot chocolate on it so that it fits in a second layer. Use a spoon or fork to make circles or other patterns.

Then decorate the drink and serve. In most cases, mocha is made with whipped cream. This is an easy method to give the drink not only aesthetics, but also a delicate taste. You can also sprinkle it with sweetened cocoa powder or pour it into chocolate-flavored syrup.

  • Then prepare the chocolate. If you use chocolate syrup, pour about 45 ml into a mug in which you will serve mocha. If you are using sweetened cocoa powder, place approximately 3 tablespoons of the powder in a mug that you will use to prepare.
  • After that, you need to heat the milk. Pour it into a small saucepan and heat over moderate heat on the stove. Avoid boiling milk, stop heating as soon as small bubbles begin to appear on the surface.
  • You can also heat the milk in the microwave. Pour it into a mug containing chocolate and heat in the microwave for at least a minute. Fill the mug with only 2/3 so that you have a place to add coffee.
  • Pour hot coffee over chocolate syrup or powder into a mug. Mix to dissolve the chocolate and slowly pour in the milk. If you like the milky taste, fill the cup with only 1/3 of the coffee, and then fill it to the end with hot milk.
