The drug "Tobrex" (eye drops). Instructions: composition, pharmacological properties
The composition of the drug includes tobramycin, which is an active substance. Auxiliary components: benzododecinium bromide, xanthan gum, trometamol, mannitol, polysorbate 80, boric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, purified water.
With external use, the drug practically does not have a systemic effect. It is quickly excreted in the urine through glomerular filtration in an almost unchanged form. The elimination half-life is two hours. The components of the drug are not able to bind to protein molecules of the blood. Internal bioavailability is less than one percent.
Tobramycin is an antibiotic with a wide spectrum of action, it is part of the aminoglycoside group. In low concentrations, it exhibits a pronounced bacteriostatic effect: it disrupts the synthesis of protein molecules by blocking 30S subunits of ribosomes. The use of high doses changes the properties of the drug: it violates the functions of the membranes (cytoplasmic), causes the death of microbes. The drug has activity against staphylococci (resistant to the action of penicillin), streptococci, neysserii, moraxellas, and proteins.
The drug "Tobrex" (eye drops). Instruction: method of application, dosage
In case of infectious eye diseases, instillations of one drop of the drug into the affected organ are used twice a day. The treatment period reaches one week. In acute infectious processes, the dosage is one drop of the drug substance in the affected eye four times a day. Then the amount of the drug used is gradually reduced in direct proportion to the effectiveness of therapy. The treatment period in this case reaches ten days. The drug "Tobrex" (eye drops) for children is absolutely safe. For them, the required dose is selected individually, depending on the type of disease, the intensity of its symptoms. The drug βTobrexβ (eye drops) for newborn babies is also prescribed.
The drug "Tobrex" (eye drops). Instructions: side effects, contraindications, drug interactions
The use of the drug can cause the following side effects: blurred vision, itching, transient discomfort, irritation, swelling of the eyelid, conjunctival erythema.
Hypersensitivity to the components is a contraindication to the use of the drug.
Long-term use of the drug can cause the growth of microorganisms that will be resistant to its effects. Sowing should be done after the end of therapy in case of unsatisfactory clinical results. When prescribed simultaneously with other antibacterial agents of the aminoglycoside series, side effects may be enhanced (ototoxic, nephrotoxic effect, hemolysis, mineral metabolism disorders). When using the drug with other eye drops, it is necessary to observe a break between instillations (fifteen minutes).
