Vodka Naliboki is a national Belarusian brand. This brand aims to restore the traditional methods for the production of spirits. The product received its name from the region of the same name located in the Republic of Belarus. The history and production of Naliboki vodka will be described in this article.

Vodka production

Vodka is a strong alcoholic drink that has no color. It is, in fact, a solution of water and alcohol with a characteristic smell and taste. The process of making vodka involves preparing corrected water, mixing it with rectified ethyl alcohol, also prepared using corrected water.

Such water is filled with mineral and organic substances, according to GOST, in order to purify and soften it. After this, the process includes processing the resulting solution with activated carbon and further filtering.

If the technology provides for the introduction of other elements, for example, aromatic, then they are also added, mixed, then control filtration and bottling are carried out with the further design of the finished product. In the manufacture of Naliboki vodka, oatmeal and honey are used.

History of Vodka

Currently, vodka is produced in a way different from that used for its manufacture in the 19th century. Nowadays , vodka is obtained by diluting alcohol, and before that it was made using distillation, that is, by distillation, such as whiskey, moonshine or rum.

Before this drink began to be called vodka, it was called "bread wine", "smoked wine", "hot wine", etc. Until the appearance of alcohol meters in our country, the strength of "bread wine" was measured using the so-called annealing. In that case, if exactly half of the ignited water-alcohol mixture burned out, then it was called "half-burn." However, after some time, with the advent of alcohol meters, the situation changed.

The appearance of 40% vodka

The strength of the half-bar was 38%, which served as the basic norm of the strength of the drink. In 1817, this normative unit was considered recommended, and in 1843 it was officially fixed. In the future, the strength of drinks began to be measured with alcohol meters, and the Ministry of Finance proposed to round the number to 40%. There were two reasons for this: the convenience in calculating the amount of vodka produced and the excise taxes coming from this to the treasury, as well as the reserve for "leakage and shrinkage."

That is, the buyer in any case could be guaranteed to purchase a drink that contains at least 38% alcohol. In 1886, in the Charter on drinking and excise taxes, the provision on 40% alcohol content in vodka was legislatively fixed. It is worth noting that we were talking only about the lower limit of the fortress indicator, and not about the strictest requirement to follow the exact standard, that is, it was not forbidden to make vodka 40% stronger.
