Despite the rapid pace of development of information technology, industry and trade, mankind remains powerless in the fight against various diseases. Diseases such as flu, sore throat, or headaches can be cured in a relatively short time, especially since such diseases are common and medicine has long found a cure for them. Numbness of the tip of the tongue or its other part is quite common among the population. A similar phenomenon in medicine is called paresthesia. In other words, this is a kind of violation of sensitivity. Paresthesia can manifest itself in various forms: at first it is a slight and sometimes imperceptible tingling of the tip of the tongue, a strange sensation of goosebumps passing through the tongue, and then numbness can lead to a partial or even complete loss of sensitivity. Symptoms are sometimes mild. But what to do if paresthesia causes discomfort to the patient while eating or communicating?

It is difficult to answer immediately the question β€œWhat makes the language go numb”, it is necessary first of all to conduct a series of surveys. Sometimes the cause can be problems in the cervical spine. It even happens that from the frequent use of antibiotics the tongue goes numb. The causes can be various, up to problems with the thyroid gland. Even after going to the dentist, a violation of the sensitivity of the tongue is possible: the doctor removes the tooth, accidentally touching the nerve, and as a result the tongue goes numb. Causes of this kind are not so dangerous, since the sensitivity of the tongue in this case will return to normal within a couple of weeks, but often numbness of the tongue is a symptom of another, more dangerous disease. For example, patients with diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular diseases often complain about the sensitivity of the tip of the tongue or its entire surface. This is due to the high dryness of the mucous membrane of the tongue. In more dangerous cases, a similar symptom indicates an impending stroke or impaired cerebral circulation. If you are completely healthy, but, nevertheless, ask yourself a constant question about why the tongue is numb, look for reasons in possible problems with your heart or mouth, even remember what toothpaste you use to brush your teeth, because often, numbness is the reason an allergic reaction to toothpaste or chewing gum. Therefore, be extremely careful in choosing cleaning pastes.

There are times when banal irritability or nervousness can cause numbness of the tongue. Watch your mood swings, because in rare cases this also leads to a loss of sensitivity. Sleep disturbance or stress at work leads not only to visits to a psychotherapist, but also to sudden paresthesia.

As soon as having passed all the medical examinations without fail and having passed the tests, your doctor will be able to answer you the question of why the tongue is numb. The reasons, as we found out, can be various, and, identifying them, you will be prescribed a course of treatment.
