Spastic colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease. If the motor function of the intestine is impaired, i.e. colon motility, this leads to spasms, which are manifested by involuntary painful contractions of the intestine. Cramps most often occur in different parts of the abdomen. Spastic colitis refers to functional disorders.
Causes
In the etiology of the disease, the main causes of abdominal cramps are factors of a neurogenic nature, such as prolonged fears and stresses, conflict situations, excessive overfatigue, imbalance in the hormonal sphere. For this reason, spastic colitis is most common in women due to cyclical fluctuations in hormonal balance associated with the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and childbirth.
Symptoms and manifestations
Violation of motor functions, motility of the large intestine is accompanied by tangible, rather painful cramps in the abdomen. The localization of pain may be uncertain. Usually cramping occurs after night on waking, as well as after eating. Spastic colitis manifests itself by alternating constipation and diarrhea. This is accompanied by bloating, flatulence, i.e. increased gas formation, pain along the large intestine. Constipation alternates with diarrhea, the stool can be slurry or liquid. In severe cases, mucus, blood impurities appear in the feces. Spastic colitis in children is manifested by bowel movement in two or three doses, bowel movements look like "sheep feces." A painful delay in bowel movement is noted. Children may experience insomnia, fatigue.
Diagnostics
A diagnostic examination is usually informative, confirming the obvious signs of intestinal inflammation, namely: flushing of the walls of the colon, their swelling. Palpation of the abdomen allows you to determine spastic constrictions, which are painful enlarged areas along the colon. The walls of the intestine can be reduced in tone.
How to treat spastic colitis?
Spastic colitis requires individual therapy, the choice of treatment tactics appropriate for a particular patient. A combined, comprehensive approach to treatment relieves psychological stress, helps to restore the motor function of the colon and improve digestion as soon as possible. To relieve spasms, improve overall health, a dietary regimen of fractional nutrition is recommended.

It should be frequent, but not plentiful, vitamin and full. In the presence of painful spasms, special antispasmodic drugs are prescribed, subject to a meal regimen and a restorative regimen. Sometimes the doctor prescribes treatment with medicinal plants that can normalize the work of the inflamed intestine. The combination of different procedures helps to restore the functioning of the colon and intestines as a whole. Spastic colitis responds well to treatment, but preventive measures such as a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and elimination of the causes that affect intestinal cramps accelerate recovery.
