In the article, we consider the instructions for the drug “ATSTs 100” for children.
The appearance of a cough in a child can worry any mother and cause an immediate desire to help. Mucolytic drugs are often used to combat such symptoms, which help viscous sputum to make it more fluid. One of the most popular mucolytic drugs for treating children is the “ATs 100”.
Pharmacological forms of this drug
The manufacturer produces a drug with a dosage of 100 mg of active substance in three pharmacological forms:
- "ATSTs 100" effervescent tablets for children. Packed in tubes, each of which contains 20 pieces. The tablets have a flat round shape, have a white color and blackberry flavor. As a result of the dissolution of the tablet, a clear liquid is obtained that has no color and smells like blackberries. The presence of a weak sulfur smell is not excluded.
- Granules used to make a therapeutic solution. Granules of the drug are homogeneous, have a white color, orange aroma. Packed in sachets, each of which contains 3 grams. There are 20 sachets in a cardboard package. As a result of dissolving the “ACC 100” powder for children in water, a medicinal drink of orange flavor is obtained.
- Syrup. In every 5 ml of “ACC” syrup there is 100 mg of the active ingredient. A syrup is a viscous liquid (clear and colorless) with a cherry flavor. The medicine is packaged in bottles of dark glass, each of these bottles contains 100 ml of the drug.
The composition of the drug
The main active ingredient in the “ACC 100” for children is acetylcysteine. From the name of the drug, you can understand that each dose of the drug contains 100 mg of the active ingredient (regardless of the pharmacological form of the drug).
As auxiliary components in the production of effervescent tablets are used: blackberry flavor, mannitol, sodium bicarbonate, lactose, citric acid, sodium citrate, ascorbic acid, sodium saccharin, sodium carbonate.
Additional substances in the “ACC 100” are: orange flavoring, sucrose, vitamin C, saccharin.
In the manufacture of the syrup, auxiliary substances such as cherry flavoring, sodium carmellose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, disodium edetate, sodium hydroxide, sodium benzoate, water, sodium saccharin are used.
The mechanism of action of the drug
Acetylcysteine present in the medication for bronchitis has a mucolytic effect. This compound is able to directly affect sputum produced in the respiratory system, thereby changing its rheological characteristics. The medicine is able to break down the bonds of mucopolysaccharides that are present in the mucus. As a result of such exposure, the degree of viscosity of sputum is reduced. Clinical trials show that the drug can actively thin the mucus even when pus is present in the bronchi. At what cough “ATSTs 100” is prescribed, it is interesting to many.
Acetylcysteine can also have an antioxidant effect. Under the influence of this substance, the secretion of glutathione is activated, radicals formed during oxidative reactions are neutralized. The result is the activation of the protective forces of the cells that form the airways, and the severity of the inflammatory process is reduced.

The antimicrobial effect of some antibiotic preparations, for example, the cephalosporin or penicillin series, is reduced if “ACC 100” is taken in parallel with them. The interval between receptions of these funds should be more than 2 hours.
