Dioxidine belongs to the group of drugs that are used to treat severe inflammatory processes: purulent pleurisy, pleural empyema, lung abscesses, cystitis, peritonitis, deep penetration wounds and postoperative wounds. A drug is used to prevent infectious processes after catheterization of the bladder.
The drug "Dioxidin" is a synthetic antibacterial agent designed to solve issues with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, vulgar protea, dysentery sticks, salmonella, streptococci, staphylococci, pathogenic anaerobes and microorganisms - pathogens of gas gangrene.
The medical industry produces the drug in various forms:
- 1% solution of dioxidine for external and internal use in ampoules of 0.01 l. The content of the active substance in the ampoule does not exceed 0.01 g;
- 5% solution for intravenous, intracavitary and external use in ampoules of 0.1 and 0.2 liter. The active substance hydroxymethylquinoxylindioxide in solution is contained at the rate of 0.005 g per 1 ml;
- 5% ointment in jars or tubes from 0.025 to 0.1 kg.
The complex name of the chemical indicates that the mixture of the drug includes a suspension of hydrocortisone and adrenaline. A distinctive quality of the drug is its ability to enhance activity under conditions of anaerobiosis. In an anaerobic environment, dioxidine stimulates the formation of reactive oxygen species, enhancing the bactericidal effect on microorganisms.
In the treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis use the procedure of instillation of the drug "Dioxidine" in the nose. In case of allergic rhinitis, if sinusitis is suspected, it is enough to inject a few drops of the “Dioxidine” dosage form into the nose to stop the development of the disease. A bactericidal agent acts on the formation of DNA in a bacterial cell, leading to a violation of the cell membrane of the microorganism. Acting as a powerful antiseptic, the drug, falling into the maxillary sinuses, destroys the causative agents of infection, stops the development of sinusitis.
The medicine "Dioksidin" in the nose is used for colds, rhinitis, with suspected sinusitis. The effect of the drug is enhanced due to its composition, where hydrocortisone acts as an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory agent, and adrenaline as a vasoconstrictor. When exposed to the drug, the secretion of mucus in the nose stops. Dioxidine drops in the nose reduce the time of treatment for the disease, and they do not dry the mucous membrane in the nose.
"Dioxidine" nasal drops - instructions for use of the drug warns about the use of the drug for the treatment of children.
The drug is prescribed only for adult patients, as it relates to toxic substances. The therapeutic properties of the drug are characterized by the breadth beyond which side effects are possible. It is necessary to strictly observe the recommended doses and not to allow their excess in treatment. Before “Dioxidin” is dripped into the patient’s nose, a tolerance test should be carried out, and if side effects are absent for 3-6 hours, continue course treatment. Side effects can be expressed in dizziness, fever and chills.
The drug is contraindicated in patients with high sensitivity to components and with insufficient adrenal function. Caution is required in the treatment of patients with kidney disease, a strict dosage of the drug is required here. The use of Dioxidine is contraindicated in pregnant women. Uncontrolled use of the drug is prohibited. Experimental studies have established that it can have mutagenic effects and cause changes in heredity.
