What is a skin horn?

Not every person imagines what a skin horn is and what it looks like. In fact, this is a disease that manifests itself in the formation of a protrusion on the skin. The structure of the skin horn is quite solid, and in appearance acquires a cylindrical shape. Such a neoplasm can reach 5 centimeters in height. In medicine, the division of this disease into two main types is accepted:

  1. Primary (it is also called true).

  2. Secondary.

If the primary type is considered only a consequence of changes in the body associated with age and is classified as standard, then the development of the secondary indicates the progression of chronic warts or papillomas and their transformation into another form. The skin horn may appear as a consequence of tuberculosis, lupus, keratoma.

Most often, keratinized epithelial cells form a dermal horn in people of advanced age, over 60 years. Moreover, the place of its formation, as a rule, is the face, neck or scalp. In some cases, the development of solid keratinized particles on the mucous membrane or on the body is observed. But smokers should not be surprised if the disease manifests itself in the oral cavity.

It should be noted that this is a long illness during which a change in the nature of education is possible. That is, a benign skin horn can transform into a malignant one over time. The cone-shaped horn does not change its primary diameter, but grows in height, but very slowly. Its danger lies in the fact that due to the development of such a seemingly insignificant disease, there is a threat of diagnosing skin cancer in the future. Often this happens due to the influence of external factors, for example, the environment, but a hereditary predisposition plays an equally important role.

Therefore, at the first signs of the appearance of a skin horn, you should immediately consult a doctor who can take all the necessary tests and establish the cause of his appearance. By biopsy, one can judge the nature of the disease, because true and false species are distinguished. A true species suggests the presence of papillae and can become a threat to the development of cancer cells, while a false species does not have such papillae and is less dangerous.

After diagnosis, treatment can be carried out. Skin horn is best removed even if it is not harmful to human health. After all, the fact that at the moment keratinized cells are not transformed into a cancerous tumor does not mean that this state of affairs will continue for the rest of his life. In addition, there is also a personal perception, since for most people the skin horn on the face gives a lot of unpleasant sensations from an aesthetic point of view. But approaching the process of deliverance is extremely responsible.

Skin horn: removal.

To date, there are many technologies in the field of painless removal of keratinized tissues. If earlier the operation to remove the skin horn was carried out strictly by surgery, that is, the area of dead tissue was excised, but now a completely new technology based on the use of a laser is being successfully applied .

In modern medical practice, most specialists resort to surgical removal of the horn only in case of serious development of the disease or reaching the precancerous stage. At the same time, there are no guarantees of the exclusion of relapse in the future, that is, the disease will not return.

If the disease is at an early stage, then the method of laser therapy is used. Laser technology appeared relatively recently, but has already become widespread in many countries. The main advantage of the modern method of treatment is the absence of scars on the skin after surgery, as well as the exclusion of recurrence.
