The pharmacological effect of the drug "Nystatin" (suppositories, tablets, ointment), the instructions for its use are described as follows: it is an antifungal drug, belongs to the group of polyenes. The drug has a fungistatic effect, disrupting the permeability of the cell membranes of the fungus. It is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. After internal administration, the drug is poorly absorbed from the digestive tract, and when applied topically does not enter the bloodstream at all. It does not have a tendency to cumulate. It is excreted through the intestines.
Indications
To prescribe the drug "Nystatin" (candles), the instructions for use give the following indications:
- candidiasis, localized in the lower intestine, with the goal of preventing fungal complications in the periods before and after surgery (for rectal use);
- vaginal candidiasis, for the purpose of its prevention during local therapy directed against microbes (for vaginal use);
- candidiasis of the mucous membranes and skin, candidiasis of internal organs, with the aim of preventing candidiasis with long-term use of antimicrobials, especially weakened and depleted patients (for the appointment of the drug "Nystatin" - tablets and ointment).
Product release form:
1) Coated tablets of 250,000 and 500,000 units of action.
2) Vaginal suppositories of 250,000 and 500,000 units of action.
3) Rectal suppositories of 250,000 and 500,000 units of action.
4) Ointment intended for external use.
Dosage and Administration
In the treatment of candidiasis of internal organs, the drug is prescribed to adults five hundred thousand units, regardless of food intake, from four to eight times a day. If candidiasis has acquired a generalized form, then the dose is increased to six million units per day. For children from one to three years, two hundred fifty thousand units are prescribed from three to four times a day, and over three years old - from 250,000 and up to 500,000 units of action four times a day. The course lasts from ten to fourteen days. As necessary, it is repeated no earlier than a week later.
For vaginal administration, the drug "Nystatin" (suppositories), the instruction recommends that you use one suppository after passing the hygiene procedures twice a day. The duration of the therapeutic course is from ten to fourteen days.
For the treatment of candidiasis of the mucous membranes and skin, the Nistatin preparation (ointment) is applied to the lesion sites with a thin layer twice a day. The duration of the therapeutic course is from seven to ten days.
For rectal administration, the drug "Nystatin" (suppository), the instruction recommends using deeply introducing one suppository into the cavity of the rectum twice a day. The course lasts from ten to fourteen days.
Contraindications, which are given for use by the drug “Nystatin”:
- candles, tablets, ointments are forbidden to use if the patient has hypersensitivity to the components of this medicinal substance;
- during pregnancy, you can take drugs only if the benefit from this for the mother exceeds the likely risk to the fetus;
- taking the drug during lactation, you should refuse breast-feeding during the treatment.
