Salofalk: instruction for use

Salofalk suppository is a German-made medicine used in the prevention and treatment of ulcerative colitis of varying severity and Crohn's disease. The main active ingredient that is part of the Salofalk candles is mesalazine.

The drug "Salofalk" in pharmacies can be found in the following dosage forms:

  • rectal suppositories (candles);
  • rectal suspension and oral suspension;
  • tablets (coated with a membrane, soluble in the intestine, or prolonged action).

The instruction recommends choosing the dosage form of Salofalk, focusing on localization, as well as on the area of โ€‹โ€‹intestinal damage. Rectal forms are recommended for the treatment of distal forms of the disease, while suppositories are best used in the treatment of common forms of the disease. Exacerbation of the disease should be treated with Salofalk weighing up to 800 mg, taking it three times a day. To prevent relapse - up to 500 mg of the drug, also 3 times in case of ulcerative colitis. In Crohn's disease, it is necessary to take up to 1 g no more than 4 times a day. The severe course of the disease causes an increase in dose to 4 g per day. However, the duration of such therapy should not exceed 12 weeks.

Oral tablets must be swallowed after a meal without chewing, together with a sufficient amount of liquid. The drug "Salofalk" (candles), the instruction recommends taking no more than 500 mg, up to 3 times a day; suspension - not higher than 60 g once at bedtime as a microclyster (it is better to cleanse the intestine first). Children should take up to 60 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day with exacerbation of diseases, to eliminate possible relapses - up to 30 mg per 1 kg of body weight. Also once a day.

Taking Salofalk is not recommended if there are diseases from the list below:

  • possible allergy to salicylic acid derivatives;

  • peptic ulcer of the duodenum and stomach;
  • lactation and the last trimester of pregnancy;
  • children under the age of 24 months;
  • blood diseases of a different nature.

  • skin rash, dermatosis, itching;
  • eosinophilia, leukopinia, anemia;
  • oligospermia, lupus-like syndrome, weakness, alopecia, mumps.
